free with a presonus audio interface i no longer have i got lots of plugins

most of them i understand and some are incredibly useful like the lexicon reverb, the Klanghelm SDRR2tube which i liked so much i upgraded by paying for an expanded vdersion, and the Eventide 910 Harmonizer.

others i can't see me using but i have not downloaded two because i simply don't know what they do despite googling them. so does anyone know them?

they are Studio Linked Trophies by Bryan Michael Cox and Arturia Analog Lab Lite

both 'sound' if you'll forgive the pun like virtual instruments that i can use instead of GM sounds. am i right or has 21st century music left me further behind than i thought?
Trophies is a virtual instrument engineered with modern beat makers in mind. This impressive software is influenced by 9x grammy music producer Bryan-Michael Cox. Trophies contains signature sounds and features. Sound content stretches over 500 presets divided across 13 instrument categories.

yep instruments

i read that too GuitarHacker but what does it do? Can I use it for the sounds like a midi soft synth?
yes... apparently it's a synth so it can do what it does as long as the host supports it.
keep in mind that most synths are single voice. They do one instrument at a time. The synths we use for BB and RB are TTS and Coyote and those are poly voiced meaning they can play a piano on one channel, a bass on another, drums on another etc..... this synth will probably not do that. So it's not likley to be a good candidate for replacement use.

However, is a nice DAW, that synth could really shine. There's nothing to prevent you from using a single voice synth in multiple instances in a DAW running a dedicated midi track for each instance and a different sample/patch on each instance....

Arturia Analog Lab appears to be much the same; comes in stand alone, vst, vst3 etc. but another synth
"Standalone or plug-in operation (VST, VST3, AU, AAX)"
"Over 6500 amazing presets, from over 30 classic keyboards"

This is a case of different meanings for the word "synth". We use softsynth or synth here on these forums to mean a GM multitimbral VSTi like was explained above. When Arturia says it's a synth that emulates over 30 different keyboards they're talking about a synthsizer in the true sense of that word. Moog, Arp, Prophet etc. These are not standard instrument sounds, they're the lead synth sound in Van Helen's Jump for example, synth brass, Mini Moog synth bass like the theme to Miami Vice or the theme from Beverly Hills Cop.

In fact those themes are pretty much all synths, no real instruments at all. This stuff was huge in the 80's and even bigger now. Here's Beverly Hills Cop:

Here's the theme from Miami Vice:

This was done on a Synclavier synth and somehow I doubt you're interested in doing this kind of thing. Arturia Lab has all these sorts of sounds and is a great synth, one of the best available for the money. But, maybe not for you.
