Get this under your belt first then move on to bigger and better.

OK here is a simple way to make a basic User RT. I'll give step by step. This will be for a Rhythm/Background Track.
1. navigate to bb/RealTracks/UserTracks
2. create a new folder inside of UserTracks folder & call it test.
4. Open BIAB and open up a song that you have been playing that has a lot of chord variations.
5. Setup BIAB for recording on the audio Track using ASIO.
6. Unfold the song to one big chorus.
7.Hit record and play the chords exactly as written. Different voicings are fine.YOU'RE TIMING MUST BE DEAD ON.
8.When done recording use the "Save As" to save the song to the "test" folder you made in step 2.
(. go back to the "test" folder and you'll see there are now 3 files;
a. *.sgu
b. *.wav
c. *.bt1
We are now ready to try it.
1. Open a blank chord sheet & type in chords or open another song.
2. Right click on one of the instruments
3. Choose "Select a user track for this track".You should see Test in the list.
4. Double click on test. The screen closes.
5. Click on "Generate and play".
^. That's it.
What you'll see is that the more elaborate the chord patterns and chord types are in step 4 the better the RT will be.

Hi John, just a few questions for you.

I read all the list of do's for creating URT's.

Now I have around 70 songs all instrumentals all featuring a friend of mine playing over the changes in his own way. All the backings are BiaB2013 all the sax tracks where added later using Cubase5. What I am trying to do is use all this sax playing to create new URT's.

So first of all I create the new folder like you said
Then open one of the songs.
imported the sax part as audio
unfolded and re-generated and listen to the whole track play back so it works.
Great..
Save as test1 in the new folder I created.
clear BiaB and then went to find what I had just done it's all there.

To try and be quick I used a single 20 bar chorus and got the melodist to put the chords in. Generated the track and played it sounds ok.
went to soloist selected URT's and the found the one I created. Selected pressed generate and waited and waited and waited. BiaB then crashed stopped responding and the screen turned white. Three times it did this with different songs.

Now, I found a sax track took it to cubase and edited down to 32 bars long.
saved as a wav file. Opened BiaB opened the relevent tune the sax came from. Made all the alterations to the track made one chorus no intro and the same length as the sax edited sax track. Imported the sax into the song saved to the right URT's folder I created. Checked they where there OK.

Opened a new tune in Biab got the melodist to create a new tune 32 bars long AABA form. Went using an empty track got my URT and pressed generate. Biab stops responding and crashes turns white. Editing intro's making URT's the same length as tunes, using tunes that are the same tempo and not to far away Key wise. The same result happens.

Now BiaB handles RT's perfectly.

Has you or anyone any ideas what went wrong?

Tried both stereo and mono sax tracks to start with, position the track right. That was why I custom made a sax track of a certain length so they all fit together.

Hope the above makes sense

Chris.

Did the new song the melodist created have any types of chords not present in the original tune you used to make your RT?Different keys and tempos are OK to have just not different types of chords.Try making a song yourself with chord changes that use the same types of chords as the RT.

Hi John, using the same type of chord worked a treat, thanks for the quick answer..

Cool. Now you have a basic understanding of what's involved. You can move onward and upward from here. The reason I had folks use a song to make the RT is that for a lot of less experienced players they'd get a more musical result. It's very difficult to get a musical feel playing over a 300 measure chord sheet with all types of chord changes in different keys. The next thing to try is to make one huge song out of a couple, tree songs that have more chord variations. You can see where I'm going with this.Keep it musical but start adding chords.Don't worry about the really weird chords if the style of music you play would never utilize them.
