You can set attributes for the Bar Lyrics Layer, using:

Options > Preferences > Display > Chord Display > Bar Based Lyrics > Choose Font

However, when you select a different color in the "Font" window,
and click OK, the font color will NOT be changed.
(You can re-click the "Choose Font" button, and it will show the color as still being black).

In checking with the Technical Support people, it appears that, the "color" attribute of that layer wasn't meant to be selectable.

To confirm that, if you go to

Options > Preferences > Notation > Bar Lyrics Font

then click the down arrow and select Other,

you will see that there is NO option in the "Font" window, to choose a different color.

My wish is to be able to set the color of the text in the Bar Based Lyrics layer.

It looks like wishes can come true...

The image below shows where to find the setting for adjusting the colors in the Bar Lyrics Layer.... these settings include the color of the text.
