Currently, double-clicking on the Track Name in the Mixer presents a dialog to change the track name. However, while this appears to work successfully, this doesn't actually apply the change unless Options > Preferences > Show Custom Track Labels and Descriptions has been checked.

An improvement would be to alert the user that the Track Name cannot be changed due to the Preferences Setting, rather than presenting the Track Name Change dialog and then failing to apply the change.

FYI - I had that checked already but my track names were not sticking. I unchecked it and checked it again and it now works fine. Go figure!

What if... When you change the name, it will switch to Show Custom Track Labels automatically? Because you are already trying to change name to something else.

Another idea is to have a shortcut button right in the warning message that Videotrack described to "Yes to switch to custom labels"
