Hopefully my recording misery is now fixed, so this is a bit of a Test.
A bit of BiaB GJ Fun. Started out as a version of 'Nivram' by The Shadows but 'somehow' it kind of morphed into other things along the way.
Superb backing by my BiaB GJ Quartet (lol) as below -

RealTracks in style: 1198:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm GypsyJazzFastGonzalo Sw 220

sixchannel.
my goodness how darn CUTE.
well well done...loved that last chord.
anything shadows is fine by me.
how bout taking one of the shads lesser known songs,
and doing a modern version.

eg one of my favs is 'the savage'.

i loved the gtr tone the shads got.

Hi OM
Thanks for listening.
Yes, brought up on The Shadows. The Sausage was so hard to get 'right' - but when you did - - ! The rhythm guitarist used to hate it.
Last chord - G6. 12th fret, first 4 strings.
I once did Peace Pipe reggae style (BiaB BT of course) at a Shadows Club. Nearly got lynched! crazy

sixchannel.
have you seen this grrreat show done by the shadows
a few years back..includeing 'the savage' <<great test of a rhythm guitarist. notice the technique employed in the vid. wish i could match that rhythm speed <<i'm getting old lol.
in the vid nice closeups of hanks playing.

ps savage starts at 8/37 in vid

I think it's from the Reunited Tour. Hank plays a later version of The Savage than the original (called Witch Doctor in the film The Young Ones). Bruce Welch's rythmn technique on this is legend.

Sixchannel.
i think the key is to keep that right hand very very relaxed and loose. ie cant tense at all.

another fast rhythm one if i remember is beatles all my loving.
i cant do that speed these days.

frankly i listen to that shads concert and marvel at the brilliant melodies. soooo many hooky riffs which i dont hear in modern songs these days in billboard top songs.
i lament the lack of memorable hooks these days.
very little on billboard cranks me up.

What a sensational laid back delivery, with all of the seamless segues along the way.

Really nice.

Hi Trev
Glad you enjoyed it.
Obviously a very 'marmite' track, not to everyone's taste.
Best regards

Nice one.
I was a "hits" fan in Oz...they weren't as ubiquitous here as in the UK.

Great playing Ian! Loved the medley. Sounds like you're good to go. cool

Josie

PS. Great pics too!

Hi Ray, thanks for listening.
The Shadows did OK in Oz but not fantastic. However, Hank Marvin hadxa solo No1 with 'Sasha' later on.

Hi Josie
Glad you enjoyed it.
The tune everyone misses is the chorus that folloes Blue Moon. Its NOT the Blue Moon chorus, its the chorus from Cliff Richard's 'Summer Holiday'. Lol.

Heck, I'm going back for another listen. I definitely missed that crazy

Darn, how could I have missed that? !! So obvious.

BTW, where did the name MINVAR come from? Is it related to 'minimum variance', as that would explain a lot of things that occurred.

(And I enjoyed another listen smile )

It was a sneaky one. The chords are 'similar' and when I tried it out, it didnt stick out 'like a sore thumb', as we Poms say, so in it went.

The 4 bar cameo 'sailors hornpipe' towards the end is a nod of apprecation to Jet Harris, The Shadows bass guitarist who popped it in on the original.
Aside - I met Jet and his wife once. Despite his legendary past history, he was a lovely, unassuming, chatty chap.

MINVAR? The main theme throughout is The Shadows 'Nivram', an anagram of the lead guitarists' name, Hank Marvin. And Minvar is also an anagram of it. OK,OK, I was stuck for a title, right?!.

Ha ha, you made me laugh. I might have thought of an anagram, but I would never have thought of an anagram of an anagram grin
(However, your association with Aleck Rand should have been a clue wink )

Marmite? Is that some sort of new plugin?

All kidding aside I enjoyed the listen.

Lol! You either love the stuff or hate it. My daughter loves it, her partner hates it. She has to go out in the garden and eat her Marmite toast. LMAO.
Glad you enjoyed the listen.
