Looking to do a cover of Patti Austin's ABILITY TO SWING
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjPEyK0U5C8I cannot seem to find that simple drum beat anywhere....
HELP !!!
Doesn't anyone out there have a response??
Very cool song. I think the reason for no responses is there is no RT's that really work for this. I did a YT search and found this drum cover for it:

Thanks, but hard to believe with all the drum Rts there is nothing like this...it's a very simple straight bass drum - basically a 'disco' beat....very disappointing....
Sort by feel in the RealDrums Picker and audition some of the Sw8 mid-tempo Pop/Rock drums. What about PopRockShuffle or NashvilleSwing8^ ?
Well, it's not that bad, I really like this tune a lot, thanks for posting it. This is a fairly complex song with lots of things going on including the drums. It's not just one basic drum beat that's used on the verse but if that's what your asking about here's my thoughts on it. What this is is a modern jazz/rock/fusion/swing thing. It's not a straight 8 disco beat, it's a modern fusion swing beat. I found a few RD's in the LAPopJazz category and one of those is part of the Redondo Smooth Jazz Style. It's not exact but it's getting there. The bigger problem is trying to find a Bass RT that works for this and so far I can't find one. It's really the bass that drives this tune, not the drums but that's another topic. Try out some of the smooth jazz swing drums.

I'm still working on this, it's a fun tune. I found the midi style San Francisco which is really Steely Dan's Home At Last and the RD drums for that is called LaPopJazzSmooth which is actually the Purdie Shuffle. Bernard Purdie created that beat for Home At Last. This is the exact drum beat for the verses on Ability To Swing. Next, I muted the bass track and wrote in that bass line into the Melody track and it sounds great. You really have to do that for this, without that bass you don't have the Ability to Swing, haha.
To get this song right requires showcasing some of the more advanced features of Biab like writing out your own midi bass line. The beat is stronger for the bridges but it's still just a variation on the same beat. Unfortunately that LaPopJazzSmooth RD has no variations with it but there is still a way to punch it up, I'll so that next and post it. You can change parts in different sections of a song by using the Bar Settings dialog.
