How do I produce silence in a bar or two ie making band stop playing? There must be another name for this function but "cut out", "silence", and "quiet" to not produce hits in the index. Anyway thanks for the help in advance

Mute.

Press F5 at a measure and mute whatever instruments you like. Then Press F5 at another measure and change to "back to Normal".

Unfortunately, Help, Index, Mute won't get what you need, because it's about the Mixer. Do this instead: Help, Index, Edit Settings for Current Bar
