I'm trying to import a .wav file into bb without any success at all. Using file/import/import audio/ to get to the import dialogue box, set the file I wish to import and wait for the result. The timer circle appears, rotates a few times then stops and nothing has been imported. It's not there either in the chord/bar view or the audio edit screen. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to the forum. Is this BIAB 2021? Do you have the Windows or Mac version?

In the main Band-in-a-Box program, please go to Help | About Band-in-a-Box. Afterwards, near the top of that window, it will have Version 2021 and a number in brackets - what is that number? If that number is lower than 842, then please close Band-in-a-Box and download the latest build 842 update from here:

Hi Chantelle

I have upgraded from an earlier version (83.. something) to 842 as recommended. The problem still persists. If I have imported it I don't know it is as there is no notification from bb that the operation was successful nor do the help files give any indication of where the import may be. I have assumed from the instructions that the import would be automatically displayed in the GUI on the main screen but it isn't.

What I am trying to import is a one and half minute arrangement for guitar of a Miles Davis classic "So What?". A search by my file manager within bb gives no results.

The system I have is using a Behringer Q502 box that is hooked up to my PC. Through this box I run my guitar while having backing tracks running from my PC. I use this as a learning tool. This works well with either

Interestingly, I can import using RealBand where 'So What?' is displayed. I can break the accompaniment down to its component parts (bass, piano and drums) but I can't hear it. The message from RealBand is as follows:

"Could not open the audio device. This can occur if another program is using the device in Exclusive Mode. It this persists, try rebooting the program."

I am a total technical illiterate. I don't know why this problem persists. I have downloaded and installed the necessary drivers for the Behringer but can't find where in either bb or RealBand to add them (if that is necessary) to these programs.

That message can often mean that your Audio Device is already in use by another application.
Are other apps open that may be claiming it? Like your browser or something?

Shutting it off in the other application may help, hopefully others chime in.
This part of your message says a lot
"This can occur if another program is using the device in Exclusive Mode"

Some ASIO devices/drivers can only support one application at a time, and apparently your system has it already locked in use.

I have got the import working in RealBand. Hope to with bb shortly. I haven't the first idea what has happened but I did go into Windows Settings and played around with the various devices I have on it.

It's OK now. I can import in RealBand, save and change to a bb format and then open up in bb. Thanks to all who assisted.

It sounds like you have found a workaround, but it does not solve the original issue. In Band-in-a-Box you could try going to Options | Return to Factory Settings and see if that helps. The alternative way to import audio into Band-in-a-Box is to drag/drop it in from your computer. I wonder if this method is not working for you as well?

If you're happy with your workaround using RealBand, then that's great! If you wish to continue troubleshooting you could also contact us directly over live chat or email support@pgmusic.com

If you still wish to try in Band-in-a-Box, have you tried going to File | Open instead of File | Import? This would open the file to the audio track, making the audio track turn orange. The downside to this method is that it would only bring it on to the Audio track and not the other Utility Tracks in 2021, but it may work as a work around for what you need.
