Very cool video! I agree that the power of the 7th chord should never be underestimated.

Can't write 80s music without a DX7!

Nice Joe. I still have an old DX9 laying around that I used to use a controller for a separate box.

Very cool sslechta! They also sound wonderful. Programming them was an experience for lack of a better term grin

Gotta love those DX's! Purchased my DX7II with an E! board in the late 80's and still use it everyday. Lots to be said about hardware synths versus today's VSTi's. Other than an occasional battery replacement those hardware synths hardly ever die. Mine's taking me from floppy drives to internet downloads, from Windows 3.0 to Win 10...soft synths can't do that!

For those whom do not have a DX sitting in their music room an option is NI's FM8:

It will convert all of the DX series sysex to FM8. Many of the DX sounds are available on line for free. I have a ton of them to convert. They all sound great to this non-DX owner.

Was the secret to writing 80's pop an "H" note? Huh?

I recently bought the V collection from Arturia. Included is a perfect sounding DX7 - now as a soft synth. And much, much easier to program than the original.

Take a listen:
