i got a slew of songs done with biab/reaper.
and would like some critiques from other musicians on pg.
i'm not scared of critique. it humbles a person to do better.

i do songs in all styles. this rocker even does love songs lol.
ive even sung opera in the past in groups of vocallists and church choirs etc.
(who were not impressed that i also did rock lol.
to quote "its just not on my dear " lol.)
but as i'm getting older i cant hit the darn very high notes
like i once did. drives me nuts. but thats life.

but my problem is, where does one upload to where one doesnt get a bunch of adware, or people trying to sell toothbrushes
(whatever lol.)//scams everywhere.
is it worth it useing itunes or spotify or any of the others.
i hear tales of a million plays and the creator makes 5 bucks.
reason i'm asking is, i want to do some studio upgrades, and it would be nice to earn "some money" to help towards such.

any ideas gratefully received.
best.

Have you ever visited the PGMusic Showcase? Most people here use SoundCloud or Reverbnation.

Only way I know of to make money in music would be to invent a time machine, go back to the 60s and release Stairway to Heaven and other Zep songs before they did!

But seriously, making significant money in music these days is incredibly hard. About the same chances of buying a winning lottery ticket I'd guess.

I have a distribution contract with distrokid.com - the cheapest price is 19,99 USD per year - but don't expect a lot of earnings. One thing is to upload your music to all major streaming services - Tidal, Apple Music, Spotify, Youtube, Deezer etc ...... you need to make it into musical influencers playlists and spent a lot of time promoting your stuff - and then you probably end up being paid 100 USD or similar if your luck is average.

If you want your music out do it just because you can - and be proud that you did it....but don't quit your daytime job unless you are the next big thing the world's been waiting for.

peter & john & blue attitude.
i'm just happy the way i am.
i like a very quite life with my lovely wife. and came thru difficult surgery this year, and am now as strong as an ox thanks to the doctors. thus i count my blessings.

it just would be nice to make "something" towards my studio upgrades no matter how minor.
irrespective , like other pg users , at my core is this crazy
song creation urge.
its always been there, and always will be. lol.

peter. nice country denmark.

justanoldmuso,

Have you considered other ways you might receive some return on your hobby investment? Perhaps you could make backing tracks on demand, teach how to use BiaB remotely, mix other people's tracks, create special occasion audio greetings

South African forum member Joanne Cooper has found several ways to monetize her hobby. She has written at least one epub on creating a song using BiaB. She uses Melodyne to correct minor pitch errors for others.

I sometimes think the most creative part of the creative process is figuring out how to pay for our creative tools.

I don't believe that monetizing music and maintaining "a very quiet life" is possible. Making money at it requires a lot of work and a lot of putting yourself and your music out there - social media, etc. The money that can be made in streaming is so small as to be irrelevant, unless you can amass a pretty large fan base/following, which (again) requires a lot of work. There's a lot of people competing for the same streams/ears that you would be.
I think the suggestions by Jim and others are your best options. If those don't appeal to you and your lifestyle, I absolutely understand & respect that, but it probably means you should accept the notion that the idea of making any income at all is unlikely at best.
Not trying to be discouraging or a Debbie Downer here, just a realist. Best of luck to you with your musical efforts.

Roger.
everything your saying is true.
everybody is saying the same these days.
i personally will always opt for the quiete life.
and family. my own wild days are in the past. lol.

its a shame really (assume my musical abilities are poor),
that very talented musicians these days have a hard time often
makeing ends meet.
i really worry that in 20 years time, that young gifted people will not bother creating songs due to all the problems.

i will continue to create songs purely for the enjoyment of it. its at the core of my psyche. like i'm sure the same for lots of people on these forums.
