Hi All,

Here's a song I wrote in September of 2001. It was originally recorded with just a guitar and featured on a Martin Guitar Forum compilation CD in 2003. I decided to re-recorded it with BIAB/RT's - thanks for listening.

Bob

He felt the breath of the devil
Over his right shoulder
He took her in his arms
To comfort and hold her
When the lights went dark
They were neither nor weak
They became new residents
The ghosts of Vesey Street

As the brother's stood tall
Through the fire and smoke
Some lept into the sky
And some took the last boat
Daniel gazed out the window
Couldn't rise from his seat
He became the next member of
The ghosts of Vesey Street

As the last phoenix pierced
The heart with no pity
The brother's laid down
With their friends in the city
And they'll never forget
The fate they did meet
But they're still standing tall with
The ghosts of Vesey Street

Now the days grows still
But for the churches bell
It's the sound of separation
From Heaven and Hell
Yes the city that cries
But does not sleep
Hope and faith walk forever with
The ghosts of Vesey Street

I would re-do this one. The RT fiddle hits a bum phrase at 0:10 and the vocal entry seems mighty rushed. It just seems a little out of synch to me.

Nice work. Sounds like a Springsteen toon. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds great to me, good composition. Fiddle sounds nice, and I dig the percussion too. Lyrics are well written, and I have to say I really enjoy your vocal! Very nice quality to your voice. It does have a bit of a Springsteen vibe happening as mentioned above. My wife is enjoying it too

Hello Robert,

This has a nice "live" sound to my ears. The only advice I have is to pan your instruments so they have a "stage" presence. It sounds like everything is dead center to my ears.

I usually set up like this: B -20,D-0,P25,G-30,S+30 as a starting point. It depends on which RT's I am using. I like to separate the Rhythm Guitar on one side and the Picking Guitar on the opposite. Just to give some room for each instrument placement.

Your song was great and the mix was fine. I know writing one is a gift and I wished I had that gift.

Definitely sounds better to me (unless I was wrong the first time around -- ha, ha). Good write and performance.

This sounds great. I like your voice and the lyrics are super. Great soundscape and mix as well.

Two thumbs up.

Bob,

This song is a bit dark for my personal taste but it's well done for the genre. The mix to me has an almost mono vibe which gives it a retro feel.

Josie, thanks. So glad you picked up on that vibe - that's exactly the sound I was trying to achieve.

BTW, check your PM.

Hi Bob,

This is good work. You've got an excellent voice for this genre. I really enjoy listening to you sing. To my ears, the mix was just right.

Well written song and well produced. I like the way you use the biab track which is similar to what I would do. Only nit is and maybe this is the way you want it , but I had to google Vesey Street to understand it was about 9/11.

Pete, thanks - yes, I guess some outside of NY may not understand the context. I appreciate your kind words.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
