Hi All,
Josie and I wanted to share our latest song. This is all BIAB/RT's and was mixed using Garageband '11. Thanks for listening - we hope you enjoy it!
Bob

"Broken Lines"
Another morning rising The world is at my door And the shadows climb the walls Then fall slowly to the floor
Storm clouds are forming The letters of your name And they cover me completely Like a quilt of summer rain
Chorus: Now you have gone Away from here You are flying free You have disappeared And you left behind A trail that's hard to find A path of broken lines That I'll connect - with time
Another silent midnight The moon is hung so high And the stars are staring back at me Fading in and out of sight
I hear a nightbird flying And I feel her passing glance Let the sky draw its curtains On this blue starlight dance
Chorus: repeat

Great lyrics! Really nice song. Either Robert's vocal needs to be as dry as Josie's or Josie needs to have the same verb applied to her vocal. Those vocals need to be put in the same space because it sounds odd otherwise. I suggest both have verb and maybe a touch less. Outside of that, really great song and great writing!

Agree with Dan
As presented here, the two vox do not mix and I’m not sure Bob’s voice is well suited to this song.
Also when you get the fx issue sorted out on Bob’s vox, you might like to think about arranging the two vox lines in harmony rather than in unison.
Shame as I think what we have is a simple but catchy song

Dan,
Thanks - appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment. I understand what your saying regarding the verb and space for the vocals. Will make those adjustments.
Thanks again, Bob

Wonderful rework. Really- that is so much better. The thing about it is this- yes it sounds better, but because the mix is more thoughtful, the SONG really comes through now. Now I understand the lyrics. Because mixing is kind of like cooking, where you can choose your ingrediants and mix them together any number of ways, it's always a good idea to keep in mind the finished dish. Will all the ingrediants you've mixed throughout make the finished dish the best it can be? Will the spices enhance the dish, or distract from it? More towards music- will the effects enhance the message, or distract from it? Will the balance of both vocalists compliment one another in such a way that the message still comes through? Will the arrangement get in the way of things, or will it breath and allow the message to come through without getting in the way? When there is much thought put into such things, this new mix happens- and it works wonderfully well. Everything comes together to present this song in a very poigniant way. The song- always service the song. That will almost always dictate what should and shouldn't happen within the mix and arragement.
That's an awful long way of saying this is right on guys. This is probably your best sounding work yet, and certainly a great tune as well.
A+ !

Hi Bob and Josie,
I thoroughly enjoyed the reflective, calm feel of these lyrics and music. Listening to them was a pleasure. I admire the way that the fiddle was woven in and out of the mix. It enhanced the arrangement no end. I've got to say that both of you sing and harmonize incredibly well together.
Wonderful work.
All the best, Noel

Thank you Dan. I really appreciate you listening again. Your opinion and advice has always helped and means a lot to me. Noel, Thank you for listening and your always thoughtful and insightful critiques. This time around we were going for an Austin City Limits unplugged feel. RT's are acoustic and fingerpicking (Roller) and the George and Allis bg fiddles. Tracks were editted in RB then mixed in Tracktion. Harmonies are me and the family - TCH Voicetone. I know Bob will be happy to see the better reviews too. OK, I have cleaned out my PM's.

Dan/Noel,
Thanks for your kind words. We worked hard on this one to get the feel right. All the "studio" credit for the mix goes to Josie - she has the touch...

Hi Josie & Bob, Really very good mix this time. Wonderful lyric writing. Harmonies very good. You should both be proud. I know how hard it is to get that right mix for a song, I struggle each and every time. It seems what worked in one song doesn't work in another even with the same singer, go figger My thought on that is, every song has it's own life. Kudos to you both. Best regards George

Bob & Josie, Great song! You two do make a great team. I was disappointed when I first visited this post, and you had removed the song (I was looking forward to hearing it). Glad you fixed whatever needed fixing, and reposted it. Really enjoyed it! Keep up the good work! Steve

Well done for the rework you two. This is a huge improvement which allows the simple melody and evocative lyric to come through far better.
I find Bob's vox more confident on this take too.
Well done!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
