This is the absolute time-record breaking song I ever did. Just 2 days ago this was just a vague idea in my mind and now I have written, sung and produced a complete song.

This song is my entry for a local radio station that was looking for a new summer-tune. It had to be in the Frisian language (which is fine for me, since I speak it fluently but impossible to understand for you guys) I also figured it had to be very simple so they could use it for extended jingles and program leaders and such. So I came up with a speed-up blues that uses only three chords.

All instruments you hear are BiaB RealTracks, all singing is done by me. Recorded and produced in Cubase 5.5. I used a cheesy preset on my VoiceLive 2 to do the harmonies. I wanted them to be obvious canned and not real. Perhaps this way they will give me the opportunity to record the song over with a real choir

Anyway, if you have four minutes to spare and you would like to waste them: Just click here to listen to my song

By the way: the speaking voices you hear are local celebrities talking about something regarding the lyrics. The lyrics of this song are about summer and why Fryslân (part of the Netherlands) is so great to spend the summer.

I would of-course love to hear what you think of this song, so don't be kind to me: just shoot!

Mike,

You asked us to be honest, ……, so I couldn’t help but notice that you didn’t say anything at all about mama, …or trains, …or trucks, …or prison, …or gettin’ drunk. …………Or maybe you did and I didn’t catch it.

Good melody, vocals and bouncy feeling. It sounds like a fun song.

Hi, Bob -

Well, he didn't say it was the perfect country-and-western song.

You just gave away the lyrics to my next tune! A true story about how my mom got me drunk while I was driving a train so I rammed a prison and had to steal a truck to get away...

Anyway, thanks for listening and giving comment!

John,

You gave away my punchline. I wanted to see if Mike caught that line out of the old country song.

I don't imagine he get's too much country and western in his part of the world. Since I couldn't understand the language, for some reason it triggered that phrase.

Mike,

That phrase was out of an old C&W song called "You Never Even Called Me By My Name". The response was the last verse:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUNNED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

Steve Goodman, a la David Allan Coe. A song I have loved from the first time I heard it.

That song brought a smile to my face. Not as big as the grin I had when I first saw "Show them to me" by Rodney Carrington on YouTube though

Mike,

This has a feel-good type of vibe going on. Reminds me of a cook out concert at the boardwalk. Your vocals are nice and clear as well as the instruments. I didn't understand the lyrics, but I enjoyed listening to it. The Organ really adds some spice to this one, IMO.

Nothing to nit-pick from me. Great song !!

Thanks for the listen and comments

@Don S. : It is not Dutch but Frisian. Other language. just like the difference between Welsch and English.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Did the song live during two gigs yesterday. Audience started singing along half-way the song! That was cool. For encore they even requested my song (of-course they where all Frisians and it is the only Frisian song in the show )

We got one freezin' song in Canuckheadski. It's about Johnny, the rodeo, and 40 below. My mom made me ferget the words.

Sounds like you are having fun. I'm at the mother in law's, it's 12:01 and time for either wee white calm me the heck down pills or a beer.

She's happy (the one who lookes like my wife in 15 years), cause she and the bride that was are out exploring potential sites for some kind of plant you buy at a store and the animals/bugs eat it, but don't send a thank you card. I'd rather buy beer with my money than give it to a squirrel, but call me crazy. (I'm used to it)

What's not to like, Mike? Sounds like you did the PERFECT thing. You matched the music and I guess the lyric to the occassion. Anyway it'll really be perfect if a check comes in the mail. Many hits have been written and recorded on the spot. BIAB makes that even easier. Made me think of a story I heard about a writer who came back to his producer/co-writer with some changes to make the song they wrote the other day even better. "Too late" he was told, "it's already being played on the radio."

Mike, great! Now, if that had been Holland's entry for the Eurovision this year (with English lyrics), NL might have won!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
