For this tune I used drvcbal.sty and the steel part from baladp.sty. Being a steel player myself helped me to cut and paste the part to make it sound more natural. I then drop the individual real and midi tracks into garageband where I tweak, add leads and vocals and master. I also have Logic but actually prefer GB. After trying Sonar, Audacity, etc I found GB to be very intuitive. I bought a mac specifically for GB and am glad I did. BIAB is one powerful piece of software that continues to inspire and bring out the best in me. Thanks to all in advance for listening. Tom

Shoot Me While I'm Smilin

She loved us from a distance She never gave us hugs
But there never was an instance that I didn’t feel loved

All I have is the memories Some that I wish I could forget
Like The Perfume on mamas neck and the whiskey on her breath

If you happen to be lucky and one day wake up old
The light will render your youthful days tender
And brighten up your soul
So kiss all my tears away all the troubles that we’ve had
I hope they Shoot me when I’m smilin I don’t want to end up sad

I know she never would have left us
But it just got out of hand
She loved to drink but she loved us too
like only a mother can

She couldn't give up the bottle
The drink that robbed her soul
I loved my mamma dearly
I didn't want to let her go

All my memories of her
The only one I saved
Was a picture of her smilin
That they laid beside her grave

Now all I have is teardrops
From the day of my first step
To that final memory of her
With the whiskey on her breath

Hey Tommy,

Very poignant song. Nice way you fit the steel - the guitar work around it was really nice too. The slant you put on this gives the sadness of the story a lift with the smilin. I enjoy your voice and writing style. The production sounds good to me. Personally, I like an ending better than a fade but that's subjective.

Hi Tommy,

Your song was a very enjoyable listen. Well written, well performed and arranged, and mixed with flair. I couldn't believe the song was over 5 minutes long! You kept me with your all the way.

All the best,
Noel

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
