Dear programmers and other interested parties:

I would like to see a minor function in RB allowing me to quickly transfer a track to the END of the track list, using just a click or two. Let's call it "Send to End." This could perhaps go on the Edit menu or the Track menu, but certainly would be useful as a right-click option. The tracks could be stacked in reverse order, from #48 down, and thus be out of the workspace, removing clutter, stored but not deleted.

Example: You've comped a great vocal track out of six different takes, and you want to get rid of the six original tracks to avoid clutter: "Send to End." All you see up top is the newly comped track.

Example: You've sent all your midi tracks through your outboard sound module (I usually use Ketron SD2), so you now have fresh audio tracks for mixing and no longer any immediate use for the original midi tracks: "Send to End."

Anyone else find this useful?

Maybe I'm not following you..
If you move the data to the end of the file, why not just mute the tracks?

'Moving to end' may affect some rendering processes, and add file size.

.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I don't think you understood him -- read it again. He suggested simply moving the tracks to the "END of the track list," not to the end of the file. He maybe should have said the BOTTOM of the track list. This wouldn't add anything to the file size, just rearrange the order.

Of course, you can do the same thing with cut and paste, or by dragging tracks to the bottom, but this is a little more laborious.

All in all, I think this a neat idea -- maybe it's just a small improvement, but if you do a lot of cutting and pasting on vocal tracks -- or even on RealTracks -- it would be kind of elegant in smoothing the process, allowing a cleaner workspace in the track list. After tracks are "sent to the end" they could be muted automatically, and just left there for storage, if needed later, rather than deleted to get them out of the way.

Brallan,

Totally understood - In the DAW I use most often, it's a graphical 'drag' function, but I like your idea better. I also have access to folder tracks, where is where I stick the sources of a comped track if I want to keep them around. Also, in the DAW I use, I can expand or shrink the vertical size of a track with double-click operations - very handy for making that 'currently interested in this track' track the biggest on the screen. Another double click on the track and it shrinks back to it's original size vertically.

Yes, Scott... Thank you.

You don't say which DAW you are using, but you know that RealBand now has this option -- to click through three different track widths, by clicking on the little arrowhead on the left of the track.

This helps a lot to reduce clutter, but I would still like to be able to easily send the tracks off-screen for storage.

The DAW is Tracktion. You can drag a track vertically in your tracklist anywhere; up,down and careful - side to side in time.

Do you want to drag your track to another track number ? Vertical drag is easy ,right click the track # you want to drag it to and at the top of the pull down list is track type change it to audio. Hold ctrl and drag it . Also you can also drag only a portion by highlighting ,instead of using cut and paste. Is this helpful ,hope I am understanding you right .

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
