In latest update (and before) I have loaded b140_TB.STY Easy Bossa Quartet.

I am playing some solos so want to erase the lead instrument.

I go to The 'strings' button which houses the trombone, I right click and select erase track both MIDI and RealTrack, just to be sure save the file.

I play it and can still hear the trombone. The String name is stil green. If I mute it then the trombone goes away.

If I go to the mixer and turn the sound slider down for the 'String' track (housing trombone) nothing happens.

If I mute the track it silences it.

Closing and opening BIAB makes no difference.

I think somehow you have an audio file of that in your folder.

Go to the folder and look for a .wav file with the Same Name as the Demo.

Delete that, either from in Band in a Box or just in Windows.

That's just me thinking out loud.

Actually in the 'mixer' try using the Audio Slider, does that affect the track?

There are some confusing parts to that post to be sure.

Did you freeze the track after erasing ? It would regenerate again if not . Sounds like a job for Real Band ! As soon as Biab chords are done ,I open in RB and have complete control over everything.

No Audio file John,

I rechecked in the mixer and found that I CAN turn the volume down (sorry if I misled).

The issue is that the trombone is erased but still there.

I have checked using another style, this time with a sax in the 'strings' channel same thing, impossible ot delete using Right CLick Erase track then Yes, Yes to to MIDI and RT options.

Tommy: I dont have the RealBand option (long story). I cant see why I should have to freeze the track to erase it.

COuld someone try to emulate please. ie. load a track with a real track in the strings and try to delete it using the above.

thanks

Erase first and freeze so it won't regenerate. When you press play it will generate a new track every time if it's not frozen . Click replay if you want no new generation. Sorry about no Real Band it's the perfect match for Biab songs and not too hard to use either.

Some Style files may have a Soloist built into them. Maybe that's the case here.

Check the MEMO for the style when it is loaded, see if there is a soloist in it or not.

Of courase, there could be *other* reasons for this behavior - if all else fails, don't neglect the Return to Factory Settings command.

And then it may be just a corrupted songfile...

John,
Do you have to do chords in BIAB? Can chords be done in Realband and just skip BIAB? Thanks.

You can do chords like Biab ,but I'm not as familiar with that as Biab . Under windows on tool bar select chords and regular bars like Biab show up . Type chords ,select style and click BB on tool bar to generate . Edit your waves in track view ( go to options ,resolution ,set to highest number for very accurate cuts) you can drag a highlighted section by hold ctrl then drag. Regenerate a highlighted section with a right click . Easy stuff if you read all of rharv's one sentence posts that's how I learnded me sum .

Many aspects of quantum mechanics may sound counter-intuitive to a layman, while they may be intuitive to a particle physicist. I am the walrus or at least shaped like one.

If you want to erase a track that is one of the "style tracks" (like the bass track)

Erase will erase the track, but pressing PLAY will get the track rewritten, because it is part of the style.

The easiest way to accomplish what you want is disable the track. You can do this from the Save+ button (Save w/Patches dialog, and there is a column "On" which is whether the track is enabled or not. Disabling it will keep it empty.

Have Fun!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
