All I did was play the guitar and let BIAB do the rest...

What a super experience.... too me a few renders to get the solos of the sax and the trumpet where I wanted it... I think it worked.... BIAB is dangerous ... it can read my mind!!!! WOW!!!

Fool Me Once

I did no mixing or EQ work at all outside of BIAB. All I did is lay down the guitar track. That's it. The rest is BIAB!

I used the _SJAZZC3.STY for this one.1059 Alto Sax, Soloist SmoothJazzPoppy Ev16. FOr the Trumpet: 1069 Soloist SmoothJazzCool Sw 16 100bpm (Bluesy).

I know I have not been listening to many of your tunes lately, but my day job has been killing me ... 60 to 70 hours per week. Even had to cancel many of my radio shows.

My apologies to all !!!

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Your composition sounds outstanding. I was convinced that it was a live ensemble Brilliant guitar work! It's a very impressive creation that you've assembled.

Mike,

Every once in a while I hear something on local radio that I KNOW was done with BIAB. It's usually the Windows Synth that gives it away.

Had I heard this over the air I never would have given it a second thought. It would blend right in on that jazz station. (You know the one; I just don't recall the call sign.)

Yes, it is a testament to BIAB, but as we all know, you have to know which buttons to push. Being the mixmeister that you are, you certainly know that, and that is some tasty guitar, too. I don't believe I knew you played guitar so well. Nice work.

Love your work Mike, and this is way up there. Very enjoyable.
BTW, I just loaded style _SJAZZC3.STY to check, because the drums on your track sound far better than BIAB, and I was right - on my system it's chalk and cheese. I presume you used some samples instread of BIAB's?

Hey Richard, good to hear from you, old friend.

Thanks so much for the compliment on how this came out. Oh yes, one has to know how to push the buttons, know something about arranging, etc. As far as the lead, I've been practicing and very inspired by a couple of new guitars. So, I'm "letting it all hang out". Funny thing is, I just close my eyes and let'er rip.

Thanks again, my friend!

Mike

Hi John. I really appreciate your nice comment.

As far as the drum track: RealDrums all the way. The only thing I did: added the slightest hint of reverb to the kit. In post-processing, I didn't do anything as far as EQ is concerned. To keep the dynamics alice, I just loaded the actual WAV file into Sonar PE only to raise the volume of the entire ensemble, then generated the MP3 from within Sonar.

No artificial anything. All RD/RT's, except for the lead.

Thanks again, John.

Cheers,
Mike

To Rob and Tommy: thanks, guys. Really appreciate it!!!

PS: I HAVE to listen to more of you guys - all of you. Hard at work, depending on where you all store your songs. SoundClick usually works OK through our network, but others not so well. I'll get to it, though!

Very nice sound, Mike! Good guitar work. Enjoyed listening.

What really bothers me is the instruments sound so real. Even the sax sound which
is (or has been in the past) extremely hard to replicate on the computer in the
past c. I'm afraid even saxes will be replaced by computer programs. Ghastly!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
