First of all when physically playing my keyboard, I only use a hold
on a few songs. Pushes and shots, maybe have, don't understand.

But in my arrangement using U_L_Mays, Pop-Jazz Pad style with
a tempo of 80. Using one rhythm RT and one solo RT.
There seems to be some hesitations a few times in the song.
Cannot pin down particular spot/s.

I did not request any of the Hold's Pushes or shots.
More accurate description would be hesitation just before
the chord change. Almost like the song stops for a moment.
The Allow RealTracks Shots, etc. is checked.

Used Melodist to build the song. Does it add these extras
without a request for them ?

I shut down my network connection to this PC while playing.
Didnt seem to make a difference. I monitored my memory usage
and ocassionaly it shot up to 31%. But like an Audio meter.
you cant see it all.

My processor and PC is pretty past, hasnt been a problem before.

Thank you,

Seeker

Version 2011 and thus 2011.5 do require more computer horsepower than the earlier versions. You mentioned memory usage, but I'm wondering more about your CPU. Could you download Geekbench, run it and post your score?

There does not exist, to my knowledge, any kind of precise chart to say how good that score is, but in general, it should be OK. We know some whose readings in the 1000 range were a problem, and others who had a little over 2000 where it was adequate.

So, we keep looking.

I don't think its a shot or hold problem, more likely sometning hanging up the audio stream.

*Reboot the computer and check operation.

*If no joy from the above, might be time to DEFRAG the Disk. Try that anyway.

*If that doesn't do it, there may be a background proggie calling an interrupt at the worst time, or perhaps you've recently changed sound devices.

Matt,
Spent some amount of time working with Video editing. Very intense on
rendering, always seemed to work just fine.

Mac,
Am running MME.
Have rebooted several times to check it out, no change.
My system auto defrags regularly.
Sound card is same one been using for several years.

Interrupts, possible, but never seen/heard this problem in the last 8 months
with BIAB.

Could be something is going south, and this is the great geek in the sky telling me this.

Will run the Belivar checkout after this message.

Thanks to both of you,

Seeker

Seeker, the only times I recall reading about someone having 'hesitation' as you call it, were:

1. underpowered PC using the newer engine in BIAB
2. hard drive failing or badly in need of defragging, or not using DMA
3. failing power supply
4. other processes running in the background

In my case with #4, a wireless network adapter caused hesitation. The timing of the song sounded like a drunken drummer.

Did you try running another great free diagnostic tool, the DPC Latency Checker? Easy to find with Google. If you see any red spikes, it would indicate a reason for the hesitation you hear in audio. The tool comes with good troubleshooting suggestions, too.

Can you post your song file (with frozen RealTracks) and also an audio example of what the problem is?

Hi Seeker,

Do these hesitations occur while you are using the mouse and/or keyboard? For example, if Band-in-a-Box is playing in the background, and you switch to another window by clicking on an icon in the Windows Taskbar (such as Internet Explorer, or an open folder Window), does the sound skip or hesitate in any way when you do this?

Blake,

Thanks for question, but not not doing anything to the PC at
all while playing.

Am aware that when you do something while music is playing there are
pauses, much longer than my "hesitation" comment.

As noted above have almost everything shut down. Also this is the only
song its happened on.

As suggested above this is copy of the song.
One of my choice picks for CD later.
WIP still, only BIAB tuned some.

Hope its in the song...

While responding Peter Posted the new updates.
Installed played the song, and it still has problems.

Thanks,
Seeker

Well if you do experience any kind of skipping while switching to another application or window, that might be a related problem. It could be worth a shot returning Band-in-a-Box to factory settings (this often works for me - the skipping goes away entirely). If this doesn't solve the problem, you can always retain your settings:

1. close Band-in-a-Box

2. find the "intrface.bbw" file in your Band-in-a-Box directory (usually C:\bb\)

3. move this file (not copy) to a different location, such as the desktop

4. re-open Band-in-a-Box

So if you still experience the problem and want to retain your settings, follow the same procedure but move the intrface file back into the BB folder, replacing the new one.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
