My next song is called "Back in the Philippines".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqOQhDWTAdQ&feature=youtube_gdataI grew up there, from ages 1-10.
I hope you enjoy it.
Ok, I am not ashamed to admit it. I am mainly a lyricist, not a singer (and pretty basic in the composition/arranging/instrumentation departments). I used ReaTune (Reapers version of AutoTune) occasionally on the vocal track, followed by 3 band eq and standard vocal-compression preset.
Frankly, I'm trying to develop my lyrical/composition skills, and I'm still working on all my other production skills.
But I want to make cool songs. I want people who hear the song to comment/criticize/(praise) the song/music/lyrics 1st, then maybe on the audio/production quality.
But if you have specific recommendations regading the fx or audio, I will be happy to implement them.
Comments on the arrangement or instrumentation, harmony, video possibilities, etc would also be welcomed.
LYRICS:
BACK IN THE PHILLIPINES
Once I had a little monkey, who'd steal all my toys,/
Timbo liked climbing trees with his skinny blue-eyed boy,/
Memories memories pulling me back,/
five or six miles, way up in a jet,/
Far away from home as you can get,/
Now I'm eating a sloppy mango on the veranda,/
Coconut coconut tumbling down to the sand,/
My silky shirt poofs in the sultry breeze,/
blowing in off of the deep blue sea,/
A local band playing the blues next door,/
I ain't gonna worry my life anymore,/
Flirting brown eyes, in a purple skirt,/
sashaying by, sandals slapping the dirt,/
Back in the Philippines, hey, hey,/
Y'all should come over and see this place,/
Where are you from? Taga saan ka?/
Philippines just for you, whoever you are,/
Fizzling waves, and thundering Spanish guitars,/
Jukin and jumpin, bumpin down muddy dirt roads,/
ride in the back of a flashy Jeepney down to the coast,/
hazy and cool in the sea of bamboo,/
bounce thru the barrio de ja vu,/
Snorkling out in the coral again,/
jellyfish stings, we better go in,/
I tackle you down in the crystal sand,/
scurrying crabs as big as your hand,/
Back in the Philippines, hey, hey,/
Y'all should come over and see this place,/
Where are you from? Taga saan ka?/
Philippines just for you, whoever you are,/
Cascading waves, evocative Spanish guitars,/
Life in the States, it's groovy, it's great,/
But sometimes it feels just like a frantic race!/
Family starting to grumble,/
My list of excuses starting to crumble,/
Back in the Philippines, hey, hey,/
Y'all should come over and see this place,/
Where are you from? Taga saan ka?/
Philippines just for you, whoever you are,/
Towering waves, redolent Spanish guitars,/
Back in the Philippines, hey, hey,/
Y'all come on over and see this place,/
Where are you from? Taga saan ka?/
Philippines capture you, whoever you are,/
Fizzling waves, and thundering Spanish guitars,/
