Hello everyone, This is a first post so I'm not sure the link will work . This tune was written by my friend Marinus Vandertogt and I post it here with his permission. The drums, bass and some keyboards were BIAB and maybe a few other things. Guitar was a strat. This is an instrumental and I have been using BIAB since the beginning. Hopefully you'll enjoy Cheers Nels http://www.4shared.com/audio/3pOS9TuF/Rise_Above_The_Shadow_nels205_.html

Nicely done. Superb playing and well arranged and engineered. Thanks for letting us hear this one! (The 'Shadow' of the title is obviously the Hankster..?) John

Hi John, first thanks for your comments on the tune. Your ref to the "Hankster" is so true. I have been a member of the Shadowsmusic site in the UK for sometime and have posted over 200 tunes there. I am lucky to have a writer like my friend close by and we are about to try a vocal together as most of the stuff I do is instrumental. I have a few others of his I will post later which are instrumental done also in the Hank style. I have listened to alot of your stuff and hearing comments from someone of your calibur put a smile on my face. Thank you once again.
Cheers
Nels

Nels, I remember a guy back in the 60s called Ian McCutcheon. He lived in Kenilworth in the street next to mine. He started learning guitar about the same time as me but he was in love with Hank's sounds and I was in love with Jeff Beck's! So we never actually played with each other but heard about one another on the Kenilworth, Warwickshire band scene. I saw many years later that was running a thriving online backing tracks business at http://shadowsworkout.ucoz.com. I expect you're familiar with him? John

John, Ian's name is very familar to me, in fact I have some of his backings. He is very popular with the Shadows community and I take it is still producing backings. I live in Canada and can't beleive how The Shadows never made it in NA (our loss) but guys like Randy Bachman and Neil Young know exactly who and what they did. Must have been a marketing problem.
Cheers

This is beautiful, I've been a Shadows fan forever. Back in 65 I loved Davie Allens version of "Apache" and when I found out it was originally done by someone else I ordered "Dance With The Shadows" from the local record store

This is fantastic. Great mix, composition, backing tracks and one outstanding guitar lead.
LOVED IT
Two thumbs up.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Zan, thank you for your comments. I also have an album called David Allen and the Arrows which I beleive might be what you are talking about. I think Apache was on that. I learned about the shadows by listening to Cliff who had some success in North America but not very much.
Cheers

Nels,
Great tune! Loved the mix, and the "sound". Thanks for sharing this one!
