Hi All

I'm looking for a way to display (and then print) notation with 2 Treble Clefs, instead of 1 Treble Clef and 1 Bass Clef displayed.

Is this possible?

Thanks

Harpo

Potentially via the LeadSheet Window. Hold down CTRL and click on those instruments you'd like to have printed, such as Melody and Soloist.

Thanks MartinB.

This works fine in the Leadsheet window, but when I move to the editable notation mode it seesm to revert back to 1 Treble Clef and 1 Bass Clef!

I would like to write out 2 parts in the Treble Clef using the Editable Notation Window.

Is this possible?

You can use the melody and soloist tracks for that. But I don't know why you wouldn't use an actual notation program. Notation in Band in a box is not really an end use. Notation programs are often harder to use, but that's how I do it and the end. It's just easier for me. The real problem is that my wife won't learn how to do any computer music app, but hates my lead sheets. I provide them with a pencil, eraser, large print, and a music stand. She can clean her own instruments.

In BiaB you can look at 1 track at a time. It is possible to get two parts on paper, as described above, but the live screens only show 1 part at a time.

I, too, would like to able to write out two parts at a time. On many songs, I think about alto and soprano at the same time. But BiaB wont do it. I have to go to another program if I want to write 2 parts simultaneously. A very old version of Cakewalk is what I use.

Harpo,

My experience is that while Editable notation has two staves (treble and bass), these two staves represent a single track (in my case, mostly the Melody track). The treble clef is used for entering the notes middle C and higher and the bass clef is used for entering notes below middle C.

In this way, the two clefs work as a single unit for note entry purposes. While it looks like two independent clefs, in reality it's what theorists would call a single "grand staff".

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thanks Guys!

Funny flatfoot,

I too use Cakewalk software (actually "Sonar X1"), but the notation abilities in this program also have a lot to be desired.
Just recently though they're offering an upgrade to "Sonar X1 Expanded" which includes the notation program "Notion3"!

I checked it (Notion3) out on their website and it seems to be totally capable of responding to just about any type of notation commands you can throw at it!
Plus it comes with a set of very high quality sounds that play along to the scores you compose!

Guess I'll be getting the upgrade from Cakewalk!

Harpo

I use Cakewalk version 3, only when I need to see multiple parts on a single screen. I dont print from there.

BiaB is a very capable notation program when used for its intended purpose. The whole concept of the program is something like a leadsheet or fake book, with just chords and a single melody line. BiaB is great for that.

If I need a more complex printout, I use Noteworthy Composer.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
