I am sure this has been discussed often in the past, but I have not seen much talk about it since I joined.

Given the thousands of forum participants, there has to be a lot of situations where people live close enough to get together over a pizza and diet Pepsi to talk music, maybe play a little. From local knowledge of the long time users, I ask if there a lot of this happening for the folks who live close together?

I would love to find users in Ohio who would be interested in getting together some Saturday afternoon and playing some, talking shop, exchanging thoughts and ideas, things we have all learned by experience.... a songwriting workshop kind of deal.

So who's from Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

(And I cannot resist the joke here, and of course I am kidding.... if we did it here, know that Steelers fans are not welcome in this Browns house... LOL!!!)

I think it'd be a great thing to be able to do BUT I think this Forum is no different then other Internet meet & greet. Once you invite a total stranger you'd better know who it is.

That CAN be a concern but looking at the people here, the age group involved, the common interest that is music, be it playing, composing, engineering.... I wouldn't have any issue inviting anybody here to my home. I think someone driving to my house with their Les Paul in the trunk would not be a problem.

And if someone had anything nefarious on their mind, I can fix that too.... I live in a rough area and I am well prepared and protected.

I'd just sick my attack terrier on them and she would lick their face until they left.

Howard (an old user who passed away a couple years ago) was in Michigan a couple years before. I always regretted not taking the opportunity (or making it rather) to meet him. I was working a lot, blah blah blah

If it was someone known and established here I would have no issue with it either, much like Eddie (who isn't that far away really). Except after what happened Saturday he probably doesn't want any Michiganders around for a while ..

FYI, in the early days of this forum, pre-2000, there was a page showing a world map with virtual push-pins showing where we all lived (if we wanted to participate). It was fun to see the world-wide distribution. For example, I found out the closest to me was MarioD in the Rochester NY area, about four hours away, since his "pin" was right on top of mine. The map is no longer supported.

They yanked that long ago amid security concerns .. even though it was voluntary. I thought it was pretty cool too. It's not like they mapped every user delivery address; you had to voluntarily go there and put your pin there.
Maybe once 'street view' came along it got too personal.

I've often thought that a cruise would be an interesting way for forum members to be at the same place at the same time. Especially with all the live entertainment, we could have fun commenting among ourselves about the various acts.

A cruise would be neutral territory, much less dangerous than inviting strangers to onbe's home. Plus, many people budget for a vacation anyway, so it wouldn't even be like a special effort that used up vacation you wanted to use in another way.

Except we wouldn't have our systems set up to play with .. that's where the learning and interaction interest is for me. Going on vacation with strangers holds no interest to me. Playing in the studio (your's or mine) with new musicians does.

Gee, you get PG music to run the cruise. The organizers of those things always get it for free, and the transportation and other expenses still are a write off here in the Great Northern Conservative Nation. (I say that after finding out about how much gov't one has to overcome s. of the border to do any kind of business.) Wow.

I, as some members have 'heard' or herd, used to take courses at the U of C. (OH school too eh?)

Way too expensive to fly there in December. Stupid actually. But even from here Miami was easy, rent a convertible, drive to Key Marathon, take a 10 day course by the pool. Way cheaper than Cinci, and trust me, in February, way better too.

I think a symposium in Fl. about the dead of winter is a no brainer. Even if the tulips are up on damn January the 12th in Victoria. We still have feet of snow and more to come.

Giddy up. (Someone do the Blues Bros. rawhide now, I'm just on 1/2 time break from the 99th Grey Cup. (Canada's stuporbowl). My limit is one glass of wine and one beer. I'd drink way more but the m e d s. Did I say there's a football game?

Sorry I messed up the brackets above. I wish I could do that in the gov't pension program.

I'd do an algebraic thing with brackets to give retired firefighters with cancer extra cash.

My pal Art to worked with me for 20 years and has peanuts for a pension could use some loose change to pay for things. My former union turned down my plea to give him and the others without a good pension 3k a year. Selfish morons. Turning me into a dang socialist. (I'm a closet one now anyway that I'm retired.) Give seniors cash, LOL.

I see the US has some joint called J something Wentworth, you just call them and get cash. What a country. And anyone who has opera on a random bus, ...wow. just wow. We play it where the drug addicts hang out. It's called the John deterrent after me. (I stole that from the U of C.) Go bearcats. They did it 20 years ago near campus on the street. Guess what segment of the population hates opera music. (Ok so the C&W people from LA hate it too!)

Some of the old mates did this over at AcidPlanet a few years ago. They had a gathering at Madison Wis, It went well i heard. Also a good bud of mine back then put together a south Georgia Carvin bash for any Carvin guitar nuts and they had a blast. The same guy came by my hotel in Atlanta once while i was on a business trip, and we played guitars together. I reciprecated by meeting him at the Namm show in Anahiem and taking him to dinner. It was fun.

Ryszard and I met here, found out that we are practically 'neighbors' and did a few jam sessions together in my home.

Was cool to meet up with Richard. Have to do it again one of these days.

Cheers.

Cheers,
Mike

It was great meeting Mike. We did some good stuff, I would very much like to do more. I met up with another pair of users, a bassist and drummer who don't frequent the forums much, and had a great time jamming on "Cissy Strut" by the Meters. Never heard back, though. There's another named Joe, a serious jazzer who lives literally right around the corner in the same town whom I'll probably never meet (unless I go to see him play). My chops aren't even close to being in his league. Silvertongued John is only about two hours away. I have missed a couple of opportunities to see him and am very sorry that I did. Maybe some time soon.

I am also certain that there is a 'silent majority' of users out there who don't know about the forums and by whom we are surrounded. I wonder how awareness could be promoted to bring more of them into the fold.

I've often thought about posting to the Craig's list musician page to see how many local BIABBers there are, and whether it would be enough for a local user group. But then the thought occurs to me that much of the freedom supplied by BIAB is freedom from having to coordinate the schedules of enough people to form a band.

sooo, the asynchronous aspect of meeting here as time allows works for me.

This is an interesting concept. In the course of my business I travel a fair bit and often wondered if there were fellow BIABers in the area to have a coffee with. For instance I travel to Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, and their respective areas at least 4 times a year. I hit Seattle and Portland areas at least 2 times a year, Toronto, Houston, Stowe, Boston, Atlanta once per year. And if our next projects are a go I will be spending time near Biloxi and Sint Maarten. Note that I said meet for a coffee. I would be hesitant about blindly inviting people into my home and studio. Human nature being what it is some people may be way more interesting in print than in person.DennisD

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
