In the Audio Set> Drivers> make sure your ASIO device is selected and the output port is selected for that device. Then you need to pull up your ASIO device's control panel and make sure the volume slider for the output is turned up. This is where I would look at first.

On my laptop, if I run MME, then I can select the "speakers and headphones" driver for the internal soundcard and all works well. If I plug in headphones, I hear through the headphones; if headphones are unplugged, then I hear everything through the speakers.

When I use ASIO, however, I have to specify a different driver for headphones versus speakers; so sometimes you just have to experiment (like I did) with the different settings to figure out what works and what doesn't. It took me a fair amount or trial and error to finally get the settings right for the different scenarios.

On my M-Audio Delta 44 the control panel can only be accessed in win/7 down in the bottom right where it says shows hidden icons. Different sound cards are different though as well as operating systems so you need to let us know what setup you have.

OK guy's....got my wife to check this out for me cause she is way more computer savy than me.. we are operating with windows 7 on a HP computer i don't know where to find what kind of sound card we have...or external as was mentioned in an above post....my wife say's all i was able to download was the manuel to ASIO, it wouldn't let me have the program...she even tried to download from a couple of different sites to no avail..

now in one of my earlier post Rharv said i didn't need ASIO...so is this a windows 7 thing?...that amplitube 3 will work with windows 7 without ASIO..

all the tutorials i watched PG music was running ASIO...and i'm just trying to get this most out my BIAB and Realband i can get..

can't understand why it won't let me download it....my wife tried a couple of different sites..

thanks for ya'll input on this problem..

You need ASIO if:
You are going to play a VSTi synth in realtime (using a keyboad controller), or
You are going to sing or play an instrument through an effect in realtime, like plugging your guitar into the computer and using an Amp Sim for the sound.

Otherwise, if you are not putting realtime demands on your system MME is fine.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on an HP Pavilion DV7 laptop computer. ASIO4ALL works great with the internal soundcard as long as you set it correctly. I also alternately plug in my M-Audio FastTrack Pro (which also works great), and also my TASCAM US-800 (for which I've not gotten MIDI to work yet, but haven't had the time to really troubleshoot it).

You didn't say whether your computer was a desktop or laptop and you didn't say which ASIO driver you are using. Let us know and we can maybe get to the bottom of this.

Hi cajun, what do you have your guitar plugged into? Do you have an external hardware device you are using?

Ok so now I know you don't have an external hardware sound device & you have a HP desktop tower running windows 7. Cajun I am not sure if you have an internal soundcard that has ASIO drivers? Anyway to be able to monitor the input signal and record direct with the amplitude effect you will need a device that has ASIO. You can record your guitar thru the mic or line input and then add the amplitude effect to it after you record it on a track without having ASIO though if you want to go that route. Let us know any other info you might have about the internal sound card you have.

Well they can go by several names such as a sound card "external or internal" or some of the newer ones are USB AUDIO/MIDI INTERFACE which will plug in via a USB cable. There are quite a bit of options here like how many inputs do you need? Do you need to plug in a MIDI device? Do you need a Hardware synth built in? Do you need Phantom Power for condenser mic's and so on. Some of the good brands include M-Audio, Tascam and many others as well as the price can be under 100 to much more. What exactly are your needs? Are you wanting to just record yourself?

USB M-Audio like Brian said is worth looking at. See if it has everything you need, but pay attention. Does it have headphone out(do you need that?)
How do you hook up your monitors/speakers?
..
what kind of inputs do you need? XLR, RCA or 1/4" jack connections? If you pay attention now when buying it can save $$ on cables/adapters and other things later. That's why posters will keep saying they need more info on your needs. What works for me may not work for you.

ok guy's thanks again with the help....so let's say i go shopping at musicians friend or sweetwater music on the internet and i'm shopping for audio/midi interface as Brian mentioned above...it should tell me in the description of the unit if it has a ASIO driver in it correct?..

as far as my needs....i might want to get as many inputs as i can afford because even if i don't use them now.....down the line i may need them i'm kinda thinking..

i think what i would love to do first when i finish these midi's and start building my songs is

1. would love to be able to add some guitar parts with amplitube 3 to my work in BIAB

2. i have a GR-33 Guitar synth i would like to add horn parts and stuff to some of my work.

3 would like to get a harmony vocal machine....and add some backup and harmony vocals to my work

i think someone mentioned my speaker set up....i have a stereo sound set up from logitech corp....i have a small subwoofer...and a pair of logitech speakers that offer high's and mids...they sound really good..

If you are sold on needing ASIO the FIRST thing I would do is poll this group and ask which Audio Interface works flawlessly with BIAB & RB with ASIO drivers. Also compare computer specs.

You most likely will not find ASIO in the product desription. However most pro audio interfaces all have ASIO drivers. You can download the manuals for most equipment and read all about installing the drivers. It is usually found in the control panel description of the driver. Speaking of drivers make sure there is 64 bit drivers as well as 32 bit. I don't know what your computer is running 32bit or 64 bit.

TASCAM US-800 USB AUDIO/MIDI INTERFACE is on sale for 99 has the most inputs for the dollar right now I think. I have no experience with this one but I know some other users can chime in on this one.
M-Audio Fast Track is another good one but more expensive and less inputs.
Both of these have MIDI since you want to record your GR-33. I sold my GR-33 and bought a GR-55 by the way.
If you are recording just the audio of the GR-33 then you don't need MIDI but if you plan on recording the MIDI output you do. Also since you are talking a harmony vocal machine most of them can be controlled by MIDI so I would make sure you have that capability. There are plenty of users here that can give some good advice on a what ever you are looking at to buy. Take Bob's advice and look over the features and study and compare and what your needs are.
Good Luck & Merry Christmas my friend
Brian

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
