Hi there, can anyone recommend an audio interface for plugging in an electric guitar to record on a laptop in Band in a Box and Real Band? I'm considering the Behringer UCG102 Guitar-to-USB Interface - Click here for the item on Amazon

I have the the Behringer UCA202. It is very highly rated, but it doesn't seem to be the best suited for what I'm trying to do, as it hasn't worked out to be a quick 'plug in and play' type of device for me. Click here for the item on Amazon.

I should mention that I'm on a budget, so if there's an option in the $30 - $60 range that would be great.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Looks like the 202 will work as an audio interface but has RCA-type inputs....I assume that you want to attach your guitar directly to the interface with no adapters. In that case, the 102 would be a better choice. Keep in mind that your system configuration can have a considerable impact on your systems ability to produce the kind of sound you want. Listing your type of computer, processor, how much RAM, version of BIAB, eyc would help the users here better be able to direct you.

Looks like there's quite a few reviews on the device on Amazon. You might also look to see if Behringer has a website with a forum, see if there's lots of complaints/problems posted there (specifically look for issues related to your operating system, computer manufacturer, look for latest drivers, etc). M-Audio USB audio interfaces get lots of favorable comments on these boards. I personally use a Line 6 UX2. These interfaces are definitely in a higher price range, though. Good luck. If you get one, give us some feedback.

I read the reviews on the UCG102 and I would not get it. Save your money and get the IK. And BTW the IK was meant for compatibility with the IK stuff like Amplitube 3 that you have now with BIAB 2012

I might choose something like this, http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/T...CFYPc4AodSjynlg

Google guitar to USB adapter and you will find many, with some a low as $9 USD.

But without your laptop’s specs we can’t recommend anything. If your computer is not up to specs you may not be happy with anything do to latency and/or driver issues.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Thanks for all the responses. Here are my system specs:

Dell Inspiron 1525
Windows Vista - 32 Bit
Intel Premium Dual CPU T 2370 @ 1.73 GHz
RAM: 2 GB

I also emailed PG Music support for a recommendation, whether or not to get a guitar to USB adapter cable or an audio interface, below is their response:

"Usually I would recommend an interface over this kind of cable, the reason for that being that the ASIO driver that needs to be employed requires that you use the same device for input and output. Because the cable will only be able to do input and not output you will find yourself switching drivers back and forth to hear what you recorded. Then switch back to record again.

With an Audio interface it is responsible and can do Input and output both. So you plug your guitar into it as well as a pair of speakers for output. No driver switching is necessary because the device does both tasks. Records and plays back. Because of this I find an audio interface to be vastly superior to a cable like you are proposing.

USB microphones suffer the same problem but they combat the problem by having a headphone output jack built into the microphone itself so the mic ends up being able to do input and output, your cable however does not have this ability.

Berhinger’s tend to be very affordable however their drivers do not work very well with our program. I would not recommend a Behringer or Alesis or M-audio product. Customers have reported to me previously that Tascam is a stable brand for them to run with Band-in-a-Box."

So based on all this, I'm planning to get the Tascam US-100 USB 2.0 Audio Interface. It has a 4.5 star rating out of 5 stars on Amazon (28 reviews). It's a bit more than what I wanted to spend ($70), but all things considered, seems like an excellent option. Looks like a good device - certainly based on the advise from PG Music. Let us know how it works out.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
