Hi there... I've mostly used band in a box, and I thought maybe I would try using realband for a change... My question is, can you record a vocal into realband as a separate new track, and would that recorded audio file have élastique Pro V2 qualities, so that you raise it, lower it, slow it down, etc?? Or is the élastique Pro V2 only for audio files generated from realtracks?? Any info appreciated, thanks.

From my experience your vocal track is what it is, but I have not really played much with pitch correction (which is ironically the thing I need most with my singing ability). I can answer as far as to say that you can record it to a track, mono or stereo, then if you want it thicker you can copy that track to another, play with effects and EQ on the copied track, thus having a backup in case you mess it up with effects (I know from experience to work on a copy and not the original) and tweak your little heart out.

The name "Elastique" implies "stretching out of shape" so I will assume you can do it with that plugin.

Guys?

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Well, this doesn't so much apply to pitch correction, per se, but actually being able to up or down the pitch of the entire track.. Which hopefully would work better if the audio tracks have this elastique parameter applied to them when you record audio particularly as far as formants are concerned... Powertracks does that now, so I just wonder if Realband can do it... Otherwise I'll have to get the upgrade for Powertracks, which I don't use that much to begin with...

it's my understanding that RealBand is Power tracks on steroids. They started with the same basic program and embellished it with even more features. So, if you can do something in Power Tracks, you should be able to do it in RB also.

You can also slow it down or speed it up ..

I don't think that either process uses Elastique as the engine though. Those features existed long before Elastique.
Could be I missed somethin'.

You know John, now that I think back, there was a huge vocal clam on a held note in one of my songs and I was able to tweak it and pull it onto pitch. That was a while back though and my memory isn't what it used to be.

Wouldn't it be great is we could add memory chips to the human brain like we can to a computer? I'd be on the Kingston web page ordering 8 gigs right now.....

Bob,
Yes it was available before BUT used a different engine to do it. The results were less then great.
I've done a couple of songs only to decide on another day that, after many hours of work, it was not in the best key. I've pitch shifted down a whole step and could not tell the difference with the new engine.

Good to know. Thanks!
I assumed because it was a hard write plugin it used it's own algorithm

Yup, same here John. It works and sounds very good, as long as you don't try to shift it up or down more than a few half-steps.

Guys, thank you very much for your replies... I will be using realband and doing vocal experiments with pitch shifting.. Just in case you want to experiment, this is what I have in mind...

Basically record the main vocal.. Let's assume you have a chorus for which you want harmonies.. Make a copy of the lead vocal, and transpose the vocal copy down a third or a fourth and some tracks to sing with... Sing the harmony to the transposed vocal, which is easy now cause it's in your key... Sing another harmony track if needed...

Now, transpose the harmony tracks up and play it against the original vocal... With judicious mixing, you're going to get more realistic harmonies than using a harmony generator or trying to sing it out of your key and busting a gut.. I'll let you know how it works..

If you are after pitch-shifted B/U vox, I'd consider the TC Helicon Harmonizer feature. You can actually play the parts with a MIDI controller and use the MIDI track to generate the harmony vocals along with some interesting male/female options and other parameters like portamento to tinker with. It's one of the options available in the Harmonizer (watch the radio buttons); another is to just use the chords from the chord window and let the Harmonizer do it all.

You get the words with different voices/pitches. A little reverb and EQ magic and it may rival pitch-shifted vocals for backups. Or a mixture of both; sing what you can and Harmonize the rest.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
