Very occasionally I get a stuck MIDI note while playing a BIAB song. Is this caused by BIAB or my SD50 sound module? I can get out of it with the MIDI panic button or just stopping the song but is there any way to prevent it from happening?

Thanks
Tony

MIDI is basically note on and note off. You said you occasionally get a stuck note so that is telling me that something has interfered with BiaB causing it to miss the note off. Most of the time this is caused by something running in the background like an anti-virus or another program. Is there anything else running when you run BiaB? If so then you may want to shut them down and see what happens.

I hope this helps.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I've had this happen when working with a songfile and doing taaks that require more than simply hitting PLAY and waiting for the songfile to go completely thru to the end. Almost always has to do with a songfile that has Strings or some other sustained MIDI Pad going on. Attempts to Stop a song at a bar where the Pad is sustaining through to the next bar leaves the MIDI output device playing the note with no chance to receive the next command that would normally stop the note if the file continued to play.

**While the MIDI standard does indeed include a "note off" command, the reality is that very few programs or sequencers bother to use the note-off command. Instead, they rely on Note-On plus Duration value to do the job. Use of Note-Off creates twice as much data and is considered superfluous. **

With BiaB, I have found that songs which contain PADS such as Strings, Synths, or other sustained notes can sometimes result in a stuck MIDI note.

In some instances, as in some of the pgmusic Demo songs, the stuck pad note happens because the songfile creator used either long duration times or the Sustain pedal CC to invoke the long or held Pad note and if I hit Stop before the computer receives either the Sustain Off CC or before the set Duration time of the note has been exceeded, the MIDI output device is left with the last command it received, ie Note On, but the Transport was stopped before one of those two necessary events could happen.

F12 ia the keyboard shortcut for the MIDI CC123 or Panic Button...

Thanks for the replies.
I guess I will just have to hope that it doesn't happen during a performance.

Me too, but its the MIDI file that is exported from BiaB that has a stuck track - in this case its a piano track. I've exhaustred looking at all the options in BiaB in the MIDI and Opt menus. Looking at a track-pane view of the piano file after importing it into Cakewalk Sonar, it looks like no note is terminated; they just keep piling up to the end of the song. When I tried to import it into Encore (notation program), it crashed the program.

I beat the same problem the other day, but I don't know how. I think I was somehow able to get BiaB to export only the piano part. Anyone know how to set that up?

Any other ideas?

I am new to the forum so treat me gentle.

I have 2008 BIAB just loaded it to new laptop with Win 7 64 bit.

I have a Ekeys 49 controller. I am using rgc as a vst with asio4all.

when I play the controller random notes transmitted from the controller seem to stick as if there is a reverb attached to the note. It seems like the notes coinside with specific notes from the style that is running. If I stop the song the same notes if played still seem to sustain

I recently installed loopbe1.

Is there a setting I have missed in the preferences.

Stuck MIDI notes *while playing the controller* are most likely a problem of the Driver used for th4e Controller, or a System problem such as the keyboard getting Interrupts when you are playing.

Please describe your computer, Operating System, and how you physically attach this keyboard controller to the computer.

Maybe that can shed some light on what's happening.

Acer Intel Pentium B950 ~2.1GHz, 4GB DDR3 / 500GB HDD, Windows7 Premium, USB interface to ekeys 49.

I am pretty much a beginner just learning to fake along to biab songs.

I live on a boat. I just use the ekeys to play along to mgus collected from the internet. It used to work OK wih my 6 yr old acer but was clunky so I upgraded, admittedly cheaply. Normally the ekeys works with the windows drivers. I dont have a sustain pedal fitted.

I did have a thought perhaps I need to turn harmonies off, that used to slow my old machine down a lot. The notes that seem to have sustain stuck change with style (and I think Key)

The ekeys works fine with other programs using GSwavetable (but again has too much latancy to be enjoyable)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
