<rant>
Not a week goes by without the forum being flooded with Asian Escort posts.

Isn't there any way to block these?

Registration requiring a captcha is what it takes.

I sure hope NOT for every post, but that happens some places.

Oh lord a captcha, I hope not.
My wife would have to quit her job just to stay home and enter that dam thing in every time I wanted to read a message. Lol.

Talk about a rant, I hate captchas.
I'll take escorts over them any day of the week. Lol.

You are registered now, and don't need one. Usually.

The point is any 'bot' can register as a user, then make posts.

It's a program written specifically for this type of board, and the objective is to create so many links that they look legit, and get bumped in the search engines. That's the theory. Then there are click through sites they want traffic so they get paid.

It's a question of the Powered by UBB.threads™ 6.5.5. keeping ahead of this type of thing by making subtle changes that thwart that stuff.

HOWEVER, we all have probably seen places where every time you have to do the captcha.

I don't really have a problem with captchas for registration, I definitely see where that's needed these days.
I either use a special service that was set up for the blind to handle that or wait and have my wife help me register.
Some sites like Yahoo and Google provide an audio captcha, but some times it's hard to hear what the numbers or letters are.
I for sure wouldn't wanna have to enter a captcha every time I wanted to log on to a site though.
That just wouldn't work for me.

Now lets get back to talking about the escorts. LOL.

Yes, all good thoughts. I'm always notifying the moderator when the escorts are back. I would happily recommend one captcha for the initial registration.

Tim, yes, during the early morning hours, there was a post about Asian Escorts as the last post in almost EVERY forum here. It happens a lot. When I or others notify the Moderator (there's an icon to do that), they all get pulled. Still, it must be annoying for PG Music.

I seldom post in the Off-Topic forum, and I'm horrified to think this thread I started is becoming popular. Mostly, though, I feel badly for Bob (Rharv) since he has to read every thread, lest he get blamed for something.

Seriously, though, can't we do a Captcha for initial registration? That would stop the Asian Escorts posts. If they use the same IP address, they get banned. If they try the hit-and-run that I think this is, they get stopped cold.

Those spambots usually spoof the IP address so you end up blocking an IP address that didn't actually make the post. The IP address ban works better on trolls who usually don't spoof their IP address.

even a captcha wouldn't keep a real human from signing up repeatedly and posting the same ad to every thread.

Maybe the best approach would be to require a brief questionnaire submitted to the moderator for approval.

example:

"which of the following sentences makes most sense to you:

1) "to love is of dramatic enjoy"

2) "it is good in your life if happy"

3) "through a wheel sometimes make spiral"

If they pick ANY of the above, they could safely be denied membership. A real one of us would send an email to the moderator asking what's up with the stupid questions

and if they catch on and ask the moderator "question of the moment unable to be known"
... 'nuff said. DENIED!!

Apparently not, Don. PG Music successfully defends against this stuff now (congratulations!).

For anyone who joined the forum in the last few years, my post was about the problem that, on occasion, the forums would be totally filled with spam until the PG staff cleaned it up. The Asian Escorts spam was just one such repeated annoyance that would render the forums temporarily unusable.

That's ok though, I did that once years ago. Easy to do a Google search and not notice the date.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
