there may be logic built into the web server requiring that when a thread reaches the size of Connecticut, it gets deleted.

Well I'd imagine Pg mods thought its was,

1 An attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records for the longest thread on the internet (wasn't it over 30 pages)

or

2 Pg were afraid that some of the jokes might offend prospective customers!

or

3 Pg mods got fed up just looking at it climbing back to the top of the off-topic forum.

I think "they" meant to delete the "Article" thread, but their fingers slipped at the last moment.

Question, Kevin:

If it were in your power to delete that thread... would you do that? Even if it meant suppressing the free expression of multiple points of view?

Historically speaking, fighting doesn't begin until discussion ends. The freedom to openly express many points of view without fear of persecution or censorship is a fundamental building block of any free society.

IMO, that is rapidly changing. Be careful what you wish for. In our lifetime we could see the establishment of a politically prescribed mindset that cannot be spoken against for fear of retribution. Some would say it's here already.

The reason why having an open forum that allows MANY points of view is that exposure to ideas one might not have considered otherwise is a good way to slowly make people aware that their ideas do not necessarily constitute the middle ground

Children tend to be self focused, and believe that their opinions are "true". It is characteristic of maturity to have more tolerance for many points of view; But enforced censorship makes that impossible. We should rejoice that we are free to say what we think rather than being upset when we hear an opinion that is not our own.

(My opinion, not absolute truth)

I personally don't like political, religious or other then musical discussion to occur in this Forum. What the OP of the article, and anyone else with these things to discuss, should only post a link to another Forum where these types of discussions are the purpose of the Forum.I know"just don't read them".

Probably. There are plenty of places to discuss politics. I don't believe this is one of those places. The whole "they" thing is a very bad road to go down. The first step in any "genocidal" or group discrimination path is the the establishment of the "they". Once you have a "they" (and not Mr. and Mrs. Johnson with their wonderful boy and girl), it becomes easier to demonize them and kill them.

I am not sure why you are so upset about all this. I called his article simplistic and dangerous. He called me an antipasto social misfit. What's the big deal?

The "Humor" thread gave this tired old Irishman incentive to face another day. Enter the "smut" folks and the moderators were obligated to step in. Deleting the entire thread seems like overkill, however. Another example of the minority seizing control of the majority. "One rotten apple spoils the whole barrel!"

I admit my curiosity as to what the view counter would do when it hit 9,999. Maybe that troubled the moderators as well.

I personally know folks who were drawn to PG Music forums to follow the specific thread. How could that possibly hurt PG Music so long as it remained clean?

Exposure to a fabulous product like BIAB, however it is accomplished, is a desirable goal, in my humble opinion.

Thanks ever so much, Chris.

Consensus early on was: If kept clean and respectful, that there would be no neutral ground from humor. I tried to keep it clean but let a poster get by with a few marginal comments but, apparently, he took that as an endorsement of his smut and got even more bold.

Farewell to a fun topic.

Please tell the moderators. Why not just sanction the guilty parties?

"genocidal"? Are you insane?

I never called you a social misfit. Actually, I never called you anything.

What I did say was : "Your response sounds more like an expression of personal antipathy than a rejection of my views."

And now you choose to carry that antipathy into a totally unrelated thread?

Don't you have some kids to chase off of your lawn or something?

There was once something called the 'SQT', otherwise known as 'The Stupid Question Thread.' It lived on http://www.RimfireCentral.com for about a year and a half or so.

The beginning of the thread was 'I have a stupid question. How do you hijack a thread?' So, they showed him, for a year and a half. I'll have to ask, and I even got an answer! At 25 posts per page, 680 page. After 18 or so months the Admins had to remove it because it was taking up so much server space.

The SQT was resurrected as 'The Watering Hole' there, but only runs for one week at a time. It's closed Sunday nights, and a new one is opened. That way, when the mods and Admin come in to trim the forums (anything over 30 days is supposed to get trimmed) only the threads older than a month get deleted.

One of the nice things is that we have moderators from within the posting groups, who have the ability to remove certain posts, entire threads, close and lock the threads and even just edit a post. This makes it nice because if someone posts something that is out of line, it can be removed, and if the whole thread just goes downhill, it can be locked, but still readable, or just removed completely.

Gary

Edited with new info.

I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

Why am I left with the feeling that this has not been the forum's finest hour?

It makes you want to return to the warmth and humanity of the Asian Escorts.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
