Hey all.

Been wanting to write a waltz for a while.
With the help of some new Bluegrass RT I did just so.

I asked my wife should I kill off the character in the story and the hard punch
in the arm sorta told me the answer.

So I went ahead and killed him off anyway.

RT is the real hero of this song.

Hope you enjoy.
All comments welcome.

Regards Rob

Here to stay

Around a warm log fire and sparks are ascending.

Dance through the moon light to the milky way.

I hope they may find you and land on a tear drop.

A kiss for my sweet heart at end of the day.

........................................................
Oh my darling how I miss you so.
Im sorry to leave you alone.

And on my return I shall call to your window.

Returned home my darling and Im here to stay.
( Ive returned home my darling to lay in the clay)
........................................................

The red dust is chocking the cattle are moving

A dingo keeps watch from scrub bye the way.

I take from my saddle the photo you gave.

Next time I see you wont know what to say.
*********

I fell from my gelding and lay at the crossing.

Blood stains the photo you gave me that day.

My lips are all parched an my heart beat is failing.

I will miss you my sweet heart on this my last day.

........................................................
Oh my darling how I miss you so.
Im sorry to leave you alone.

And on my return I shall call to your window.

Returned home my darling and Im here to stay.
( Ive returned home my darling to lay in the clay)

I just finished saying on your other song that I looked forward to your next offering.. and here it is already! Man, you're FAST!

I like the Sons of the Pioneers, and this is reminiscent of them. The lyrics are very well suited to the song.. it all goes together very well.

The theme of death in the context of a letter to a dear loved one is close to home for me right now, as my wife is dying. She says things like this to me every day:
Quote:

Oh my darling how I miss you so.
Im sorry to leave you alone.

And the way you framed each verse's lyrics around commonplace things like the ascending sparks and the vastness of the milky way... those are exactly the kinds of momentary relationships I make between the details of this life as opposed to the speculations we naturally have about eternity.

Quote:

And on my return I shall call to your window.

likewise, the idea that departed loved ones will be watching us from close by is such a recurring and appealing theme in the thoughts of just about everybody who has ever lost someone they love.

Good job! Your song really struck a chord with me

WOW, this is fantastic!

Another winner as everything is spot on. Great mix, backing tracks, lyrics and vocal.

Two thumbs up.

Rob,

Such a "gentle" yet moving song and lyrics.
The story really grabbed me.

Different style/type, but Green Grass of Home grabs me same way.

And Pat on top of Robs great song, your posting is heart wrenching.
May peace be with you and your wife in the coming times.

Rob, thanks for sharing you wonderful music with us.

Thanks for your kind regards for my wife and family... but death is an inexorable part of life. There's a 100% mortality rate, which is why songs about death will always have an understanding audience.

With that thought in mind, I've often thought that a series of songs that address the naturalness of death and healthy ways to address the grieving process would be a great gift for somebody to give humanity.

Rob,
Wonderful lyrics and sentiment. I often wonder whether I should write songs with fewer or repetitious lyrics to make them more catchy, but then I hear well crafted song like this and it inspires me keep at it. Thanks for sharing.
