Hey All,

Got a new song here. This one inspired by my late Dad, who's been gone now for 6 years. I guess he would've turned 88 years old a couple weeks back, so he's been on my mind. Anyway, this one is about losing one's "hero", the loss one never seems to get over. Bu,t it is also about paying tribute and due respect, so there are some positive "vibes" as well.

Mostly used Realtracks on it (piano, fiddle, bass, drums), but there is an acoustic guitar, faintly in the back, that I played. I edited the fiddle, using appropriate bits and pieces where I felt they were appropriate. Timing is off on background vocals in the chorus, but it's late, dog ate my homework, etc, etc...

I Sing This Song

Here are the lyrics, in case anyone cares to follow...

Thanks for the listen!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I Sing This Song

You know you meant so much to me
You gave me eyes so I could see
You know I was your biggest fan
You made me proud of who I am

I think of you every day
I won’t forget you, tho’ you’ve gone away
You taught me how to tell right from wrong
It’s for you, I sing this song

(chorus)
I miss you more than you’ll ever know
I try to be brave, but my pain still shows
I know you’d want me to be strong
And it’s for you, I sing this song

You’ve been gone now for several years
The day you left is still so clear
I never wanted you to go
I sing this song, so you will know

Mike,

Late last night noticed your posting, right before sack time.
Thought NAW, will listen in the morning, glad I waited.
Excellent story you told of your father and the relationship.
Like the simplicity of the background music. the violin was
a nice touch. Also the chorus harmony is very nice.

My parents took their final journey 20 years ago this year.
They were physically distant from us, but still close.
Dad hard, but loving, took care of all 6 of us kids.

I still miss them as you mentioned, primarily on special days
in our lives. The loss fades, but never goes away.

Enjoyed your music, lyrics and the arrangement.

Thanks for sharing part of your heart!

Thanks for the nice comments, guys. I guess when something comes from the heart, it takes on a certain life of its' own.

Frank - your Dad deserved a medal to have raised 6 kids (not to mention your Mom too!)

Mike...nice one. No Nashville song factory can turn out music from the heart like this. In order to write it you had to live it, and you have. Good use of the pan for the fiddle and keys. Simple and touching. I like the harmonies and use of reverb on your vocal. My only suggestions: cut those extraneous drum drops off of the beginning and end. And don't forget to pull the fiddle down when it's playing during your vocal. Actually any instrument that parallels your vocal range should be pulled down during your vocal so as not to compete. Just create a gain/volume envelope in your DAW for the fiddle and keys tracks and use them to adjust the volume in relation to your vocal track.

Your work just keeps getting better and better. Kudos, my friend.

Keep 'em coming.

Thanks, Danny and Bob.

Bob, you always know how to put the finer touches on my material and I do appreciate all the input. Since it's such a simple song, there shouldn't be much left to do.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Very touching. I miss my Mom and Dad every day too. I lost both of them this year.

Great use of BIAB. I love that piano especially.
