Here's a song I wrote almost 50 years ago. I decided to change it to Western Swing after I heard some of the new BIAB Western Swing styles. I had rhythm fiddle and pedal steel going till the solos, then I muted each and added the Steel and Fiddle solo tracks. The ending (at around 2:48) has a shot on everything except the drums. At 75, my voice is starting to go, so kindly overlook the vocal. I'll Get Over You

I really like it - you've got a Randy Newman sort of vibe. Must... not... give... mixing... advice... to... someone... more... clearly.. more... qualified...Nope, can't stop myself! The mix is nice and hot, but it feels like it buries the vocals in places. And as nice as the instruments are, they get plenty of time to solo. I want to hear more of your vocals, or less backing instruments on the track. Great toe tapper!

Harvey - nice job. I agree with David - more vocal, less instruments - you have a cool voice.

I like the voice very much. Doesn't sound like 75 at all. Give us more. Guenter

Yeah, I could turn up the vocals a bit, but I'd cringe even more than I do now. This was from an album I did to quiet my wife and there are some songs that I feel better about. Every song used BIAB tracks and my friend Dale Reid did all the lead guitar stuff. These are the songs I did for the album: Summertime Everybody's Talkin' Don't Think Twice Girl From Ipanema I'll Get Over You Scotch and Soda (I played all rhythm guitars) I've Been Livin With The Blues I'm Confessin' (That I Love You) It Was A Very Good Year Blue Prelude If (The Song by Bread) (They Call The Wind) Mariah I just put all of them up on Soundcloud here: My Soundcloud stuffIf they give you some BIAB ideas, then it's good.

Harvey, I hear Tex Beneke (sp?), Bob Wills, and, strangely, Phil Harris in this one. Not a bad crowd to be compared to, my friend. I will go back and listen to the full album later. Thanks for posting.

Hi Hervey,
What a great toe-tapper! I loved it. As everyone has already said, the vocals were a bit back in the mix but that still didn't hide the fact that this is a very well written song on every level. I'm really glad you posted this because it was a great listen.
All the best, Noel

Western swing at its best!
I agree with David but I wouldn’t bring the vocals up. I would bring the backing track riffs down! It may be more balanced that way.
But this is a very good song as is!
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Harvey,
Right on with the beat and arrangement. Great dancing number. I did enjoy your vocals. Telling the story in the lyrics.
Good music is timeless.
Thanks for sharing with us all!

"...50 years ago..." What, are you the Rolling Stones or someone?
This does swing. I love this style music. Great hook line. The vocals are neat. This has a real live feel to it.
Good one! I have to these instruments to my BIAB collection soon.

That was fun to listen to, so I'm sure you had fun doing it. Thanks for another lesson in what BiaB can do. Quote:

Harvey,
Thanks so much for sharing this! I always look forward to anything you have to share. I am a huge admirer of your work, and have utmost respect for you.
I listened to all the songs on Soundcloud. Very impressive mixture. How can we get a copy of your album?

You're kidding, right? You actually listened to all the songs? Wow, I can't even do that.
I just did this album for my wife, who's been pestering me for years to actually make a CD of some of the songs I sing and play.
It was never meant for sale or distribution, but if you're serious about wanting a copy, send your mailing address to: hargerst@airmail.net, and I'll send you a copy.
Thank you and I'm really flattered.
Added:
I've put all the songs in album order here:
Harvey Gerst's "Almost Live" album
All the songs are downloadable.
(All the arrangements are my own - don't blame anybody else.)

In total aggrement with Mario, and yes to the rest of the album as I just heard a bit of each tune on soundcloud. Liked them all but man oh man your western swing songs pull the wagon.
Great listen,

Great! I know it is categorized as a country swing song but, somehow it bring to my memory the images of the "roaring 20's", you know, ballroom dancing, tuxedos and long dresses. Later

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
