Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/austin51/glass-bottles-on-the-side-of

This is a song I wrote years ago and never recorded. BIAB gave me the ability to make it happen.

Comments and suggestions welcome and encouraged.

aka Glass Bottles, I used the following:

All music with RealTracks
Drums – Nashville Waltz SW5 Stick and Snare #07
Bass – Acoustic Country Waltz #1121
Guitar – Acoustic Fingerpicking Pop Waltz #1698
Guitar – Acoustic Rhythm Celtic Jig #1163
Banjo – Rhythm Bluegrass Waltz #1698
Fiddle – Background Country Waltz (Outside) #1150
Pedal Steel Guitar – Rhythm Country #1126
Cello – Background Pop Country #1856
Vocal – Me (M-Audio NOVA condenser mic)
Mixed with effects added using Cakewalk Home Studio

Lyrics

Glass Bottles On The Side Of The Road

The sun burns the back of my neck
Highway burns the soles of my feet
I’ve lost count of the miles
I’ve put between her and me

Chorus:
Empty and discarded
Broken and exposed
Like glass bottles on the side of the road
Like glass bottles on the side of the road

My heart is a vacancy sign
Love flickers that once made it glow
On the edge of my lips
I feel her move like a ghost

Repeat Chorus

Heat lightning in a desert sky
The night air still as a stone
You can be sure you will reap
The fruit of the seeds you have sewn

Repeat Chorus

I like this a lot Austin51. Beautifully written and sung. Great raw feel. If I changed anything I might tighten up the instrument breaks and ending....but it's fine as is.

Good song.

Excellent song - good lyrics, nice arrangement, and nice vocals. It's got an Eagles sort of sound to me. Because of that, I'd really like to hear harmonies - especially on the chorus.

Your arrangement hints at it, but it would rock if you could add a string trio. Sadly, BIAB can't do that yet!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks for the nice comments David.

The Eagles are one of my favorites. I tried background vocals on the chorus but it betrayed the sense of isolation, loneliness, and anguish I was after.

Nice, we enjoyed that a lot!

I would be curious how you created this, BB or RB? And if you generated the tracks in 2 passes & then joined them up in Cakewalk, etc.

Again, nice track!

Nice, I like the Karma vibe in the final verse and as mentioned by Tano the "vacancy sign" allusion is great.

Glad you enjoyed the song. Thanks for listening.

I created the tracks in BB using RealTracks. Using the the seven tracks (instruments + melody and solo)I moved those to Cakewalk. Went back to BB and made a copy of the song and changed the RealTracks to other instruments. Moved those to Cakewalk. With Cakewalk I can directly drag and drop one instrument track or all seven at once using the Combo feature.

I wanted pedal steel only in the music break and Irish Jig acoustic guitar only in the chorus so I trimmed the tracks in Cakewalk. I enjoy experimenting with the tracks to get a different sound. It's surprising what combinations will work together (within reason).

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
