Here's a tune wot I wrote. It was going to be a song. It even had worms - “Shadows of evening, slip from the sky” - etc but as I can't sing, it'll just have to be another Instro – again - as usual. Typical of slow Instro tunes of the 1960's – 70's(“Shadows” - geddit?) its in an “Enchantment Under The Sea” style (remember Back To The Future?). Many a fine 'Date' ended smooching to a tune like this. I'm a relative newcomer to the Showcase Forum. I usually do “Covers” using BIAB which, of course, can't be put up on here. But there are some amazing Songwriters here who have well and truly opened my eyes to the fact there is so much more to a tune than C, F and G7. So this one isn't! Lol ! Guitar is “Lady”, my beloved hand-built Alan Brason Strat with Kinman pickups and Elixir 11s strings. Chain is – Guitar - Korg ampworks mini-modeller on AC30TB /twin cab setting - Zoom2000 EFTP on patch 36 – thats it! Simples! Here is the BIAB recipe - ****** Song Summary ************* Title: SHADOWS OF EVENING File:SHADOWS OF EVENING.SGU Key=C , Tempo 90, Length (m:s)=3:35 4 bar intro, 73 bar chorus, from bar 5 to bar 77. Ian,
That is absolutely beautiful! Gorgeous tone on that guitar. A beautiful melody with just the right (subtle) backing to let your guitar SHINE! Goes to show you don't need 50,000 notes played as fast as they can be to make great guitar music.
Love it. Gorgeous. More!!!

Hi Ian,
You really have a gift for wonderful melodies. While I'm not a guitarist, I found this a pleasure to listen to. I closed my eyes and just let the music wash over me. I loved it!
More please! Noel

Love your guitar playing.
The only thing that I think might improve this is to maybe completely drop the strings out in a couple of places. Your guitar is a lot better than the strings and I think w/o the string backing in a few measures, it might put the focus more squarely on the lead guitar.
Really lovely piece Ian!
Ian

Goodness me! Thank you for all the kind words and comments. All this came out of a chord "noodle" one night and before I knew it I had the bones of the tune. My grateful thanks to Floyd,Boehm,Mike B, Nels, Greg, Richard, Noel, Ian, ROG and Steve for listening. What is interesting is that you guys are MY Mentors - you compose and create amazing music - and if my effort has pleased you then I am more than happy.
Ian F - I DID try the technique of dropping the synth and (later) the strings out at intervals. Indeed in the first part of Verse 1, I did just that. What I was aiming for, in the end, was the gradual introduction of backing to make a more climactic finish rather than showing off the guitar. "Lady" needs no encouragement to Show Off. "The Show Isn't Over Till Lady Sings" (lol). If you enjoyed her sound then she will be pleased too.
Floyd - half of the composing should be down to you. If you remember "Claire", there are some chords in the tune that I had never heard of and sounded beautiful. You generously showed me your workings and what they were. I tried weaving a couple into the melody that I had in my head and they worked so well. Thank you for your kindness and sharing your knowledge. cheers Ian

Excellent! Sounds like Mark Knopfler playing a lead out tune for a 1960's prom. Just a great guitar tone.

Boy, did this performance conjure up memories of Santo and Johnny, and Duane Eddy. That beautiful guitar sound.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
