Hi Josie,

What a great song!!! As I listened, images of Karen Carpenter kept floating around inside my head. I couldn't get rid of them! I'm a huge Carpenters fan and this is exactly the kind of song she'd have sung. In addition, your performance has the quality of her singing. Wow! I'm incredibly impressed.

Best regards,
Noel

P.S. I loved the metaphor "quicksand of old feelings" - it releases a flood of images and feelings about the situation!

Lovely ballad Josie!
Great lyrics and your voice is just perfect for the song.
Excellent choice of tracks and the Sax solo and infills are just SO right.
As Noel said - "I'm incredibly impressed".
cheers
Ian

Josie,

Cool opening - all those oohs. The e. piano was a great choice for the song - no one uses them much - at least here in the showcase. All the tracks were nice, actually. The pad was very effective. And the sax was tasty.

The melody had a very cool Smokey R vibe to it (I think I may have said that about something else you did) - certainly not a bad way to go...

The last verse was quite strong.

As Noel96 says a touch of the Carpenters, and I say mixed with Carly Simon and that is just your vocals.......
I think this is teh best yet from Josie, but it has stiff competition.

Hi Josie,

what an expressive voice. You couldn't do that with Avanna.
Beautiful instrumentation.
I like the background vocals in the beginning.
It's a pity there aren't more of them.

Josie,

I think this is your best yet. Your vocals really shine in this one. And you did a very nice job with the mix.

Really like this one.

A Supremes ballad style immediately comes to mind (and that's admirable). Instruments and mix offer ideal backing for the whole vibe. Nice effort. Thanks for posting.

As the others have said, this is a really lovely tune.

As a piano player, I can't help noticing the chord change clipping in both the piano and electric piano patches. (This is probably still the #1 biggest weakness w/ BIAB in general that I hear) You might consider using midi tracks and sample tank, especially w/ the e piano as there's some really nice midi e piano patches. BIAB does a decent job switching chords, and I'm sure lot's of folks wouldn't even notice. But to my ears this is the one thing that's holding your track back from sounding truly pro.

Really nice tune.

Peace,

Ian

Who said Josie only writes and sings country songs? Well, no one, but if there was ever a doubt this pop ballad dispels any and all of those thoughts.

As much as I liked the song I could not stop thinking that even though I know fully well you wrote this song from a girl's point of view, that with a tweak of the lyric the same message this could be a great song from a "guy's" point as well. Hey maybe this could be one of those songs that could be "answered" from a guy's point of view.

OK, I'll stop rambling, very good song, equally as good performance.

Later,

Ian, thank you. I am still basically a midiot and without the RT's I'd be lost.

Bob, thank you. Your song "Carolina Girl" is still an earworm that won't stay out of my head.

Thank you, Aleck.

Danny, I started out writing pop in Nashville then made the switch to country - left me with a split music personality like Dr. Jekylette and Miss Heidi but both are fun. Seriously, thank you.
