Ballad starting out in band in a box using SLOWSOUL - Smooth Jazz as a basis.

I used a vocaloid on this one for now... will get a real singer in soon to finish it off.

All sounds have been replaced, but the essence is still what came from BIAB.

Here is the original BIAB output - http://www.studiobeemusic.com/vocaloid/why%20oh%20why%20-%20biab.mp3
Here is the song as it is now - http://www.studiobeemusic.com/vocaloid/130427whyohwhyfinal.mp3

I'm actually thinking about going back to the BIAB drums (RealDrums), since I think they fit better. We'll see.

Hi Rich,

I'm still getting used to the idea of "vocaloids". It was a bit hard for me to understand some of the lyrics.....could be just me but thought I'd mention it - might help to post them.

Some nice sounds in your arrangement.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Rich,

nice song.
What Vocaloid did you use?
Why didn't you ask the singer of "Carefree".
She's got a wonderful voice and you haven't revealed
her name yet.

I used Avanna for this. I have Sonika, but don't find the quality as good, even though I do like the style of her singing.

The use of a vocaloid in this one was a temporary thing - it helped me explain a few problems to the lyricist and will also help me avoid the issues of having to explain to the singer what I'm looking for rhythmically. I'm in the process of getting a singer to do the final thing. It turns out the girl who recommended Adena (who sung Carefree Days) is a great singer herself. Just modest, and in her defense, not looking for solo vocal work - she's really a piano player. I may well go back to Adena (Cahill), but would like to try others on other songs first. This is new territory for me, and so don't want to limit myself at this point by working with just one or two people. Tiffany (who I want to use on this song) is one of my favourite people in the world. I know she will put 150% into it, at least.

I will first be recording a male vocal this weekend on another song (Tiffany's boyfriend as it happens!)... I'm not so happy with the shape that one is in at the moment, but want at least a scratch vocal down before I make any more changes - you can hear that one here - http://www.studiobeemusic.com/vocaloid/nomansland.mp3. This also originated in BIAB, though has transformed in Cubase more than any other I've done using BIAB so far. I also used vocaloid Avanna on this sample, dropping down an octave or two to get into the male register.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
