This is a song I actually wrote about 3 years ago, but I finally got around to re-doing it. Mostly Realtracks, with some orchestration I did using Garritan Personal Orchestra. I programmed the drums with EZ Drummer. All the vocals are me (once again, cheap labor). I hope you enjoy it!

Big Fish

Here are the lyrics...

Big Fish
Lyrics & Music by Stephen W. Young

A young man has his passion
Full of life and youthful dreams
Of winning wars and driving fast cars
Super hero kinds of things
But the wars have become a job in a factory
And the fast car is now a dark blue SUV

And he lives three doors down from the old town square
Two doors up from the girl that's always cut his hair
He's the king of the hill in this small town, in his mind
But he's beginning to feel like a little fish
In a pond that's getting bigger all the time

One day he met Sally Ann
Took her out for a country drive
They laughed and talked of simple things
How it's great to be alive
And with a smile, she stole his heart. It really was not fair
Now he has a wife. He lives his life to share

And they live three doors down from the old town square
Two doors up from the girl that's always cut his hair
He's the king of the hill in this small town, in his mind
But he's beginning to feel like a little fish
In a pond that's getting bigger all the time

Sally gave birth this morning
Now a new life has begun
He couldn't believe his ears when heard the doctor said
You have a son
And with misty eyes he looks in his little boy's face
And in an instant he understands Amazing Grace

And they live three doors down from the old town square
Two doors up from the girl that's always cut his hair
He's the king of the hill in this small town, in his mind
But in Sally's eyes he's still a big fish
In a pond that's getting bigger all the time
In his little boy's eyes he's a big fish
In a pond that's getting bigger all the time
It's time we realize we're all big fish
In a pond that's getting bigger all the time

Hi Steve,

When I see that you've posted a new song, I always smile and race on over to have a listen. Your work always inspires me.

"Big Fish" was a delight to listen to. I have to hand it to you, you have a really well-honed sense of arrangement. This one is incredibly well done. Come to think of it, all your songs are incredibly well done and this one gleams just as bright as every other one I've heard.

I can guarantee that I'll be popping back to listen to this song a few more times!

All the best,
Noel

Steve.

This is absolutely superb.

It's a great song and the lyrics brought a tear to my eyes. Beautifully sung and a spot-on mix.

Perhaps the best thing for me was the arrangement - full of texture and variety throughout and just so professional.

Thanks for posting this one.

ROG.

It’s all been said. All I can add is this is another professionally polished song from Steve.

This is a keeper.

Hey Steve - you know how to tell a story, and the authority of that voice backs up every word. Ironic and pretty tune.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
