alfredo,

First of all, welcome to the forum! I just LOVE this chord progression! It's really well-suited to the style used in your production. And the song actually has a melody, and the accompanying lyics are a very good match for the mood of the song.

Would you be willing to post a little about how you set this song up? Style used in BIAB? Other RT added in Real Band? Plugins used?

Anyway, very nice introductory song! Thanks for posting, and again, welcome to the forum!

Hi Alfredo and James,

This is excellent and a credit to your abilities. I thoroughly enjoyed the listen. The musical and lyrical journey was a pleasure. As seeker has said, that last line is an awesome lyrical payoff!

A+ enjoyable!

Regards,
Noel

P.S. I'm listening to "Hard Times" while I'm typing. EXCELLENT! I bet Stephen Foster would be proud of that version.

Great story, also loved the changes and topped off by a strong although very intimate performance.

While this may be your 1st composition with BIAB there is no doubt in my mind I am hearing a pro here, not a musical novice in any why shape or form.

Hi Alfredo and James,

Like Danny says, this may be your first post on the forum, but the track screams out experienced professionals.

Beautiful song, well produced and with super vocals.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks, many thanks everybody, you all are very kind!

Trying to answer to all of you:

- to Pat Marr:

here are the details of BIAB settings for this song: it's quite difficult that I use a style "as it is", since i prefer to try mixing different instruments styles until I'm satisfied with the whole thing. So, in this song (apart from the guitar, that I play) the bass is 1386 Bass Jazz Acoustic ballad SW085; the piano is a SuperMidi Track for 2056 Piano RhythmCeltic Air ev085; and for the Cello I've used 1856 Cello Background PopCountry Ev 85; PlugIns: Izotope Alloy patches for Bass and Cello; EzMix for Piano. I use to mix everything with Adobe Audition, and for "spicing up" the final mix I use Izotope Ozone 5.

Credits for the melody line, lyrics and vocals go to James Higgins, I've just composed the backing track, then, as usual, he adds the voice. Since I'm Italian, there's of course no possibility at all for me to compose such beautiful lyrics in a different language. James lives in Scotland, and we met on the internet some years ago on the great music web site SongCrafters: James and me have never met, but we enjoy playing "together" this strange way.

- to all of you who appreciated the lyrics, the voice and particularly the final verse:

please clap your hands to James. He deserves it!

- to Noel96:

thanks for you kind words about "Hard Times"! On my Soundcloud for several of the songs I've used BIAB, but I've never posted anything here, since I understand that posting covers here is not allowed. On Hard Times, for the solo instruments I've used a Godin Freeway SA Midi guitar to obtain the sounds of uillean pipes and whistles (VST instruments)

- to DannyC and ROG:

thanks, but both me and James are absolutely not professional musicians. I'm an 58 yo family doctor, he works in the Health Service in Scotland.

Again, thanks everybody, and please excuse my English...

Alfredo

Alfredo,

There's nothing wrong with posting arrangements of works that are in the public domain and free of copyright restrictions (such as the Stephen Forster song, "Hard Times"). That rule in the forum guidelines is simply to stop people posting songs still covered by copyright.

You should definitely post a "Hard Times" here. It's great!

All the best,
Noel

+1 And wonderful lyrics. I'm going to confess that I did get a little bored with the really long music break(bridge) - short attention span here. smile Just me not a big deal.

Loved it. Well done.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
