This song came about during a discussion about the music my mate Jazz and I grew up with in the Caribbean and Wales respectively where we decided that the only difference really was the way we played it. Apologies for 5th word! Hi Alyn,
This is incredibly different from the other songs of yours that I've heard. I love the sound of Reggae. It always manages to make me feel good. All you need now is a couple of steel drums hammering away to add to the backgound!
Thank you for posting. You had my toes a-tappin'.
All the best, Noel

Alyn - this is just perfect!
And I never knew the Welsh had such a history of reggae.
I loved it as soon as it started, but once the chorus kicked in I was hooked and I've been back for four listens already. Everything about it is just wonderful - that chorus is inspired and the solo exactly right.
It reminded me of happy childhood holidays dancing to the reggae on the beach at Llandudno.
Thanks for sharing this one.
ROG.

A very fun song Alyn... I don't listen to a lot of Reggae, so I can't compare it to anything; but I like that its different than what I normally listen to.
I basically agree with the song's premise, so you and I must think alike.
Looking at the instruments /RT used in the song: did you use one of the named styles for the song, or did you go from scratch assembling instruments that fit? If you used a style, I'd like to know which one, and if not, I'd like to say "Good Job" scouting for compatible sounds!

Noel, Thank you for your praise. It is one of the few songs in which I only use Real stuff. Mainly because I couldn't get a good feel when I played it myself!!
ROG, Coming from you, your praise is praise indeed, thank you. Not a lot of reggae in Wales, well in this part at least but the thought/sight of you, in the rain, on the beach in Llandudno with dreds, shorts and hitting a bowling hoop with a stick cheers me up no end. The solo was one of those moments when you go "YEH". I was getting fed up as nothing seemed to gel and then *wham* there it was.
Thank you both for the positive comments, Alyn

Pat, The only Reggae I really like is some of Bob Marley's stuff. No woman no cry, I shot the sheriff (not Eric's version) and The Redemption Song, which I think is one of the greats.
I started with a real tracks reggae style and rejected it almost immediately and just played around with RT's until I found one that "hit the spot". The reggae track 1158 was the main stay and so first, the bossa drums came next and it developed from there over a period of months!! I think I tried almost every RT and paid little attention to the recommended tempos. The mixture of swing and even tempos seemed to make the feel infectious.
The song's subject was the main reason I wrote it ie "the change is when we lay it down" so we do think alike.

Alyn,
A fun one! Quite enjoyable.
I don't know - I think you may have actually create a new genre - uniquely your own. A nice mix of RTs...

We really like this as we've listened to reggae off and on over the years. I really like the bossa/reggae blend. I've done some BIAB reggae and wouldn't have thought of that. Forgive me if I borrow your ideas sometime! Really fun listen all the way around!!

Alyn,
This is really nice. I like the way you incorporated the resonator guitar with the Reggae style. Unusual, but it fits. I like your vocals on this one too.

Janice and Bud, Feel free to borrow my ideas! Thanks for the kind comments. Steve, Thanks Steve, I still have a long way to go to the "purity" of your vocals! The resonator part was the 1st pass and I went YEH when I heard it as I didn't expect it to really fit. Country, Bossa and Reggae don't usually appear in the same sentence Alyn

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
