THE EQUIVOCATIN' BLUES

Hmmmm....well Janice steps up to plate, takes control and handles the big life decisions wonderfully....but with some of the smaller things she'll be the first to admit that she might just equivocate -- a little smile

I talked her into leaving the scatting at the end (it was spontaneous). We've listened to a little Dixieland over the years -- not much but, hey, it's BIAB! Nothing like a little steppin' over the genre cliff.

Bass: Acoustic JAzz 768
Drums: Dixieland
Guitar R: Acoustic 1795
Guitar L: Acoustic 1979
Clarinet L: Dixieland 1966
Clarinet R: Dixieland 1964
Trumpet L: Dixieland 1975
Trumpet R: Dixieland 1974
Piano: Acoustic 1791
Vocal: Janice via Rodes NT1 and Blue Icicle USB
Mixed in Garageband interfaced with BIAB with the usual cut and spliced RTs

The Equivocatin' Blues

The right says the democrats are wusses
The left says the republicans are heartless
And I'm just living with these equivocatin' blues.

The doc says eat this diet and live to 90
Next doc says no I'd never make it to 60
Hey docs what're y'all doing to me?

I heard on the tv buy gold and never worry
Then my broker says you'll go broke in a hurry
Thanks guys now I'm feeling all comfy

BREAK

Blue tie man says the climate's changing
Red tie man says no, they're all lying
But for a girl like me it's all too baffling

Buy local organic save the small farmer
No No save your money it's not the answer
Everybody's a trying to tell me what's better.

Talking head says a pipeline'll cause a spill
but the other one just says drill baby drill
I'm turning off the news, yeah had my fill

What's a girl to do about all this?
I think I'm unequivocally equivocating

Janice and Bud,

That is the best laugh I've had all day. LOL! Couldn't agree more. The trilling at the end is priceless and a great way to sum up that equivocatin feeling (especially for us girls). grin

My new fav of yours. Loved it. Great vocal and arrangement/mix as always.

And... let's just put this back up where it belongs...

So, guys... how many different genres do you think you need to conquer???
Geez... chalk up another one... this sounds like another recording dug out of a vault somewhere.

Fearless songwriting, too. And how about that playful Janice!!!

A great piece.

Josie, glad it's your fav. It was fun and re the "trumpet scatting" you gotta hear her slide guitar, clarinet, and just general scatting. If I could talk her into it I'd put together something and let her "play" all the solos!

Thanks Scott, glad you enjoyed it.

Alyn, glad you also like the outro -- it just happened after I'd complained about not being able to get the trumpet ending that I wanted.

Floyd, glad you felt like we captured that old groove. I had to listen to a few Dixieland songs to get the feel for mixing. It's pretty different given that it's apparently acceptable in that genre to step all over one another smile Yeah, I get to hear Janice do bird songs, tree frogs, owls, guitars, brass, bass, woodwinds, and much more. This might be the first time (seriously) anybody has heard what I live (happily) with!

Janice & Bud, That was Fun tastic. Glad you left the scat at the end. The spontaneous things that happen during writing and recording are the best parts. Great

writing. Great mix. As usual the vocal is just downright outstanding. Thanks for posting. Tom

Hey Tommy, thanks for the kind words! As usual with my wife this was a "one taker" and the scatting just popped up at the end. She's still a little ambivalent (equivocating) about leaving it in but is getting used to the notion.

cool song...and it sums up nicely the way the news is presented....

What's up with this rash of political songs.....? Wait.... come to think, I have one started too but not finished..... mayhap I should finish?

I like the song and the writing..... the very last chord threw me though..... it should go to root or make it one of those fancy jazz things..... the way it ended left a little to be desired.... JMHO.

Thanks Bob, we appreciate the comments

Herb, thanks for the remarks and good catch on the last chord. When Janice scatted the end it was sans backing track as they had run out. I rebuilt the RT's to include her scat which ended on the last chord of the typical blues turnaround, i.e., a fifth. Guess I got too caught in the mixing and trying to fit her scat to a progression that I didn't hear that. I added a guitar tag that ends on the first and updated the file.

Guenter, thanks and stay tuned as I'm gonna try and talk her into doing some of that!

Yeah, I was happy to find an instrumental tag that transitioned well from the scat. Surprised that the lead dixieland guitar worked. You never know in many cases until you try it (and several generations of it).

+1.
Smart and great fun!
cool
Yes, the ending's just right - like Joni Mitchell's 'ruin the take' mock deep voice and cracking up at the end of 'Big Yellow Taxi', which she then always had to replicate live as it became the hook that everyone waited for!

Hey John and Robert, we appreciate the comments. Yeah I had not thought about the Joni song. Fortunately, we haven't gigged in many years so replication is not an issue!

As usual, a perfect performance.
Stylish, interesting lyrics.
Backing works great, not in the way. Even the trombone playing is great (ha ha)
The solo fits nicely, and the vocals are just superb.
This is really easy listening.
Thanks for sharing!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
