Hello,

I am new to BIAB. I would like to have BIAB send output to Reaper. I would like to have Reaper running in record mode and have my vocals, acoustic guitar, and BIAB output recording in realtime. I don't think BIAB has a VST plug that I can initiate in Reape...is there some other way to rout the BIAB audio into Reaper?

Thanks

Absolutely, BIAB and Reaper are a perfect pair. Just drag and drop any or all BIAB track directly into Reaper.

Hi Johnny,

Welcome to the forums smile

I use Reaper all the time. As Dan says, simply take your BIAB tracks to Reaper, mix them there (which is real easy - probably about 5 mins work) and then record the tracks you want in Reaper while the BIAB tracks are playing.

There is no reason to try and do everything at once. You'll get much better results by creating all tracks and then mixing them as a second step.

My songs at the site below were all created by BIAB, had those tracks transferred to Reaper and my vocals added and mixed in Reaper.

Hope this helps.
Noel

I would not have both programs actively running like our new poster suggests, but would it work? I think it should work, but I don't use Reaper so I can't test it. However, I often record BIAB in real time into Adobe Audition.

You would load both programs, start Reaper recording, then start BIAB playing. To even attempt this, you will need to have a top-notch computer, probably running 64-bit Windows and more than 4 Gb of RAM. To minimize computer resources, I suggest freezing the BIAB tracks first. Also, set BIAB to use MME (which is really WDM) for its audio output so Reaper can use an ASIO driver while recording. You don't need to use the BIAB plugin mode, but it might make it easier to keep both programs on one screen.

4johnny, if you don't know how to do these things, write back and we will help.

Having said that, I concur with what Dan and Noel said is a better way to work.

Thanks for the replies. I did use the drag and drop method and that does work. Although I was hoping for the realtime method to work.

I do have a powerful PC, I do have BIAB using MME and and Reaper using ASIO with my digi003 hardware. I did have BIAB playing and Reaper recording. I have a new track setup in reaper for BIAB but I'm not sure what the input should be set to, to receive BIAB output. Or if there is a plugin I should have on that blank track to allow me to hear BIAB output in Reaper.

If not, I'll stick with the drag and drop method.

I'm glad to know there is a helpful community that comes with this product, I'm loving it.

I use Sonar.... Reaper is just as good for working on files.

I will open X1 first, let it grab the ASIO driver and then I open BB and RB.... since they will grab and share the MME driver.

I export the tracks from Real Band into a folder where they are saved. I create a new folder for each song and all the BB/RB tracks and files go into it. It keeps everything in one place.

I click on X1 and simply use the IMPORT AUDIO command to bring the files into X1.

BB will act as a plug in on many DAW's but I never use it like that, nor do I drag and drop the files.... I like to import them.

It works either way but I do not think it will allow recording through BB into Reaper live.... but you can always record live into reaper directly after you have the files in it's tracks.... I do that ALL the time in Sonar. Most of my songs (not all) have one or more live tracks in them that was recorded directly into X1.

Sounds good, 4johhny.

Only you know what devices on your system to select as output in BIAB and input in Reaper, but I would assume they need to match.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
