Usually it is only at Christmas time that I might be able to find a public domain song that I would post to the forum. I am working on a public domain song for Christmas now. But I discovered that one that I did earlier in the year is actually public domain. The song is See See Rider by Ma Rainey, written in 1924. I attempted to arrange it in the style of Tommy Flanagan.

531 Bass Acoustic Pop Sw 65 - Byron House
RD JazzBrushes - Craig Scott
576 Guitar Electric Solo Blues EV 85 - by Jack Pearson

See See Rider

Hi Ken,

That was an incredibly enjoyable experience. I could listen to your piano playing all day. It sings with soul. To my mind, jazz doesn't get any classier than what I've just listened to. Everything about this presentation sparkles. I wouldn't change a thing.

Thank you for letting me listen to some of your music. The pleasure was mine!

All the best,
Noel

Hey Ken,

Wow!! Da blooze played by a real jazz pianist, with all the modern voicings, slick left-hand transitions, beautifully shaped ideas, ... such a pleasure to listen to.

Please! More!!

Ken,

That was TRULY enjoyable. I listened several times (although I skipped the first 52 seconds after the first). Beautiful playing.
So expressive!

So very cool! It made me want to write a Tom Waits song!

MORE!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi, Ken !

Very enjoyable jazz !
I can envision a smokefilled
night club from way back then,
with a lonely couple involved
in a blueish soul dance....
and the white clad guys playing
emotionally in the background...
the background noice is missing, though !!
This is romantic music for all what it´s worth !!
Thank you, Ken for this lovely played piece !!:))

Cheers
Dani

Such a sweet subdued blues. Great piano playing and a perfect accompaniment.

My only critique is I would have liked a more jazzy lead guitar like Jim Hall or Wes Montgomery (but they aren't available). The timbre of that guitar didn't fit with the rest of the mix, at least for me it didn't.

The Gospel sounding chords near the end... sweet.

This is so good, I love your piano playing. Thanks for posting.

Frank, I hear you. I "auditioned" numerous guitar players (including myself) for the solo. I am more of a player in that Jim Hall style when I pull out the guitar. But I wanted that dig-in blues sound with a lot of sustain and bends yet not a lot of notes. I didn't want any distortion though, so I agree that the bit of distortion in there doesn't really sit well with the rest of the mix. It was the best one that I could find.

Maybe the next set of realtracks has my perfect soloist for this song!

Hi Ken...

We're big lovers of Jazz and you gave us one more reason to enjoy the genre with this superb tune! We do agree that the guitar is just a bit conflicting with the mellowness (is that a word?) of the piano. You work on the ivories is superb! What a great listen! Best to you ...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
