Dear Forum Friends,
Greetings! I just posted a new song for you called "Eternal Lite." It's my first attempt at Contemporary Christian music so I ask the masters of this genre for indulgence. My brother owns a small business making flameless electric prayer candles and he ask me to write a song he could use on his website.
http://eternal-lite-candles.com/. I tried to write a song that evokes the spirit and emotion without being overtly commercial.
Here the link. I'll post the realtrack list and technical in a few days. I hope you enjoy! Thanks for listening!!

Nice job on the song... as a song done in BB/RB....

however....

This is not contemporary Christian at all. The genre is closer to folk or old style country. You don't hear anything like this on CC radio these days.

If you are planning to use this commercially on a website, take the time to fix the vocal track. It's pitchy in several places and that really needs to be fixed for commercial use.

I'm not trying to be disparaging with my remarks, just assessing the song for what it is and what you said you are planning to use it for. It needs to be professional sounding if it's to be used on a website.

I like the song. However, it needs a bit of work. The genre is what it is....and will probably be OK for the intended purposes.

Hope this helps...

All,
Thanks for the comments. Glad you liked it. I'll look into pitch correction. I do my mixing in RB.

SD, Nice job on the lyrics. As was already said a little pitch correction and you're on your way. I enjoyed the message and the melody. Thanks for posting. Tom

Hi SD,

I liked it smile

One thing that always stands out in your songs is your gift for melody and your ability to choose excellent chords and chord progressions to underscore it. This one is no exception.

Also, to my ears, I have to say that your arrangement and subsequent production of 'Eternal Life' has a really well thought through emotional development. It's easy to hear that a great deal of thought has gone into getting this into place.

It's thumbs up from me.

All the best,
Noel

Danny, Tommy, Noel,
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Noel, I appreciate your comments about my chord changes and melodies. I'm often not satisfied with either the chords or the melody so they usually get extra attention. I'm glad it's paying off.

I also think you are very thoughtful and talented songwriter with a nice voice and now that you are getting more into RT's and mixing the sky's the limit.

Let me know how that GSnap worked out for you.

Good luck with the project SD.

SpaceDog,

For what it's worth, I have numerous tuners (Melodyne, Nectar, GSnap) but I keep on returning to ReaTune in the DAW Reaper. It's quick, easy and effective. The image below shows a section of my vocals with tuning applied.

ReaTune was one of the main reasons that I started using Reaper. After a while, though, I found it was an incredibly powerful DAW and so stayed with it. Up until then, I was a Sonar user.

If you want to try ReaTune, Reaper can be used freely. Once you pass the expiry trial date, a reminder pops up but the program remains fully functional. (When it became clear to me that I was going to use Reaper as my DAW of choice, I bought it out of respect for the company.)

Just a thought.

Josie,
Thanks for yor knid words. Well, the help from John (Silvertones) I was able to access the GSnap VST plugin an I've been experimenting with it in both RB and Cubase. The download process was a friggin nigtmare!!!! It literally took four hours and I got several unwanted freeware programs.

Scott C,
Glad you liked it

Noel,
Does ReaTune work with RB, Cubase,as plugin or is it a stand-alone program. I'm willing to try it if you would send the download link. Thanks.

All,
By the way, my brother's company was really thrilled with the song. Once I send them remix, they plan to do a video have it play in their dispay booth at tradeshows.

Thanks

Hi SD,

ReaTune is not a plugin in the usual sense. It only works inside Reaper. If you're interested in having a look at Reaper, it's at

http://reaper.fm/

A number of people on the forum use Reaper as their DAW. There are also lots of Reaper Tutorials on Youtube.

Regards,
Noel

Noel,
Thanks. I don't think I'm up to learning a new DAW at this point. I'll keep it in mind though. Thanks.

Hi SD,

You can always do what I did for the first 6 months, and that was ...

1. Render the song's backing to a WAV file.

2. Solo the vocal and render it to a second WAV file.

3. Now load those two files into Reaper.

4. Adjust the volumes so they're reasonable balanced.

5. Add the ReaTune plug-in to the Vocal track.

6. Tune the Vocal.

7. Solo the Vocal track and render to a new Vocal track.

8. Load the tuned vocal back into your DAW of preference.

All you need to know to do the above is

(a) how to open audio file (drag and drop works fine)
(b) how to adjust volume sliders
(c) how to add ReaTune to a track and use it
(d) how to render files

As I said, that's what I used to do for around 6 months. Also, if you want a hand to understand something, I don't mind helping out.

All the best with whatever you decide!
Noel
