Post the file and someone will set it up for you. Otherwise , since it is a secret we could tell you but then we would have to ....

I've never posted a file before.
I hope this works...
Ooops. It says image files are only allowed.

How do you post a BIAB file?

This file is doing some really funky things now.
I have a repeat section that plays correctly the first time and on the repeat instruments start dropping out badly!

If the part marker is set to Part B at the first bar, then it will probably play Style B from bar 1

Time for a selection of Opt. > Return to factory settings?

Thanks VT!
You guessed correctly.

I have a part marker on bar one set to Part B and a part marker on bar 17 set to Part B. Is there a crime in that? smile

Bar one is supposed to play Style A and bar 17 is supposed to play Style B.

So what *IS* the BIAB secret to getting BIAB to play Style A at bar 1 (using part marker B)?

Does having my song settings at:
17, 64, 3 have anything to do with this?
That is choruses supposed to start at bar 17 with intro at bar 1?

The style you select from the Style button determines what plays at the start of the song. The part marker for bar one may be blue or green.

By the way, there are styles (chosen from the Style button or F5), and there are sub styles. The part markers select sub styles, although the line is now blurred in version 2014. If you have 2014, right-click on a part marker to bring up a menu allowing you to define more sub styles such as C & D, then E & F etc.

Not sure why you want to select Style B on the 1st bar and expect it to play Style A.
The easiest way to get it to start in Style A is to click the part marker until it turns blue (Style A)
Tip: Make sure the song is not frozen, otherwise the change won't take effect. You'll have to regenerate for it to work. HTH.

I don't believe I ever said I want Style B on the 1st bar.

I knew this would get confusing. I should have called them Style 1 and Style 2. Let's use those names OK?

I'd like Style 1 at bar one BUT playing 'Substyle b'.
I'd like Style 2 at bar seventeen BUT playing 'Substyle b'.

It's important that the correct substyles are played.

I see. Just out of curiosity can this ever be over-ridden by clicking on the first bar, 'bar settings' and choosing a different style? Which I think is what I did. I remember getting a pop-up error, I think it said something to the effect of what you said.

I have 2011.
I understand the difference between styles and substyles.
If I understand correctly, for every style there are what, two substyles? Do they have more now?

That's why it's important that not only the correct style plays at each bar but the correct substyle as well.

I'm afraid I can't remember any longer what version 2011 had, but somewhere around then, multistyles were introduced. Some styles had more than A and B sub styles. Different colors like pink and purple were used. If a style has more than two sub styles, you will see this when clicking on the bar number, because you will see more than blue, green or neither. Version 2014 makes this much easier to define than before.

I think 4 sub-styles (Multi-Styles) has been around since about 2008 so it's in your version and hopefully you should still be able to use that to do what you require.

Thanks VT.
I checked and yes, my version has 4 substyles, a,b,c,d.

BUT.....

BIAB is not behaving properly!

When I input sub b for my substyle, (which I know has a walking bass) BIAB just plays sub a (no walking bass) !!!

Arghhhh!!!!!

Also BIAB is now counter-intuitive.

For years and years and years, we had substyle a and substyle b.

They were the SAME STYLE, just that sub b was a variation of sub a, usually a walking bass in a jazz style (if working properly, see above).

Now when I click on sub c or sub d I am taken to the Styles Menu!!!

That was a HUGE surprise.
Talk about making the user confused about what a Style is and what a Sub-style is!

So now BIAB is saying that sub a and sub b are sub-styles,
but sub c and sub d are STYLES! HUH????

I appreciate your frustration. Are PG Music support able to help? Maybe that's the next step?

Thanks.
Tomorrow will be a busy day, but perhaps I will call PG support on Thursday.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
