Hello PG music nation. This is a song conceived and arranged in BIAB, recorded, mixed "in the box" and now being shared on an online forum, and the song is about the social ills of technology. How's that for irony? This features elec. gtrs (635 and 638), acoustic guitar (405), a Hammond organ (I love their rock organs), EZDrummer (the classic), and live bass by a friend (had to be something to break the pure "virtual nature. Hope you enjoy it. Take care. Greg https://soundcloud.com/gjohnson-2/virtual-girl-sage-audio

This is excellent. Really enjoyed it. Would have been great for that new movie, "Her."

Hi Greg...
A real nice Pop-Rocker! Nice production and the song is good on its own merits. Thanks for a real nice listen!

I liked it from the start...
good writing job. Nice lyric crafting.
"now you can even find God on line"... lol....!!!
well done. loved it.
just a thought on the fade, a little something more creative... instead of the fade>>>.... song stutters like a glitched CD ... sound of old dial up modem (fax machine sounds) trying to connect.... dial tone... silence..

Cool song all the way around...and yeah the irony is certainly there re doing it with BIAB! Great vocals, clever lyric and a very clean mix all make this a great listen. Congrats and we certainly hope to hear more! BTW, did you use any mastering software on this?

Greg,
Cool pop sound on this. The bass line is terrific. Good arrangement. Would have liked to see a lyric posted along with this. There were a few things I missed. Must be my day for not "hearing" lyrics well...
The vocal seemed a bit hot in spots - as I turned it up it broke up a bit...
Very catchy melody! I can still heard it in my head...

Interesting that you said that. I couldn't decide how to end it. I thought of a quick, sharp cutoff. If you'll notice, I did use a tuning effect on the word "girl" in the fade to give it a weird digital sound. Thanks for your kind words. Take care. Greg

Hi Floyd. Thanks for the positive words. I deliberately made the vocal a bit harsh and edgy. Here are the lyrics. I typed them out for my biggest fan (my mom) so I copied them for you. Take care. Greg
VIRTUAL GIRL
She’s got her favorite blogs, sites where she goes when she feels alone Every app she needs, she’s got the whole world inside her phone Her Facebook fifty friends, the party never ends The information super freeway, buy it now on Ebay, you’ll always find it there Forget the brick and mortar, who needs the world disorder When you’ve got the key to another world Livin’ fast and free, a virtual girl
It just blows her mind how those in the past could stay entertained Transistor radios, family shows and those outdoor games If you dare to dream it, download it or stream it, it’s all here on the web Your villains and your heroes come down to ones and zeros She points and clicks her way to another world Livin’ fast and free, a virtual girl
Reality seems to be such a complicated thread So she’d rather be livin’ life in her head
When she’s feeling deep, looking for something that’s more sublime It puts her soul at ease to know you can even find God on line Virtual and single, log on to Christian Mingle, find God’s match for you I’m spiritual and female, send photo and an email There’s nothing she can’t do in the virtual world Livin’ fast and free, a virtual girl

Fantastic Greg, loved the groove, really good lyrics, and the concept is just so good. You've done a great job there, again! Regards Trevor

Greg, I agree with LawTunes. It would have been great for the movie Her. Great write and mix. I agree with floyd about the hot spots. I actually liked the fade out. Missed the lyrics. Overall very very well done. We want more! Tom

Excellent job, Greg. Constantly amazed how different people use the same RTs in so many diverse ways. Great song and I like the different "chorus" idea. Pity you had to use EZdrummer - RealDrums needs to be doing some catching up. I thought the fade was OK - no glitches I could hear and it fitted well. Smooth. cheers ian

Thanks Ian. Appreciate the uh.....appreciation. I actually love the real tracks many times. The only issue I have is not being able to treat different drums in the kit differently. Most of the tracks are really well played and tasteful, but sometimes you want a gated snare and a dry kick or something. Thanks again for listening. Take care. Greg

Excellent song with crafty lyrics and a memorable musical hook. It's current and thoughtful. You sure captured the, what, social dichotomy so speak of technology in our lives? Impressive.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
