I've got a track in audio. I render it to midi. I want to highlight a section of at track and change the patch.
I've tried this with whole tracks. I right clicked on the track and open patch selection. I have rendered the track with a Juno Di synthesizer and it says Juno in the top box. Under that is a list of different instruments.
The problem is, on the Juno itself in the display it lists Brass, then a description, then the number 057. When I look this up in the manual, it says MSB 087 LSB 068 PC 023. How can I get these settings into that section I highlighted?
Help appreciated, as always!

Go to support page at top of screen and see if there is a patch map for the Juno Di .. I think I remember seeing one there.

The rename your Patches.ini (to something like patchesORIG.ini) file in PT folder, name the new file to patches.ini and then rename the patches.bin file (to something like patchesORIG.bin) so it gets rebuilt when you open PT.

Ok done. Now, how do I assign a specific Juno patch to a track or area of a track? All of the numbers are confusing to me. number 057. When I look this up in the manual, it says MSB 087 LSB 068 PC 023. How can I get these settings into that section I highlighted?

You should now be able to use the patch select dialogue. On the right you should see your Juno Variations; much easier than using MSB LSB. But you could if you wanted .. don't have time for a tutorial on this right now.

You could also enter Program Changes using the Event Editor.

Since it's MIDI you could also easily cut/paste the sections to another track and use a different track to begin with.

Lots of ways to do it. You don't highlight a section though.
You make a Program Change (patch) when yu need it and change again when you want it to go back.
I know of no way to do it using a highlighted section.

A simple way to enter Program, MSB and LSB codes is to use the Classic Tracks Window to set up the instrument for a track, or section of one transferred to a separate track.

Your selection MSB 087, LSB 068, PC 023

Enter 23 in the "Program" column

Enter 87 in the "Bank" ( MSB)column

Enter 68 in the "LSB" column

You can cycle through existing patches by using the + and - signs on any of the three columns.

If you have the Patch List set up and selected in Options Menu > Patch Names > Synth then the names of the patch will appear confirming your selection.

I went to the classic track window and entered my values per Lyn's message. I made sure (I think!?) I had the Juno patches loaded, and the sound was not even close to the listing in the Juno catalogue. Now what?
Thanks, as always!

Hi Bernier,

Revisit The Classic Window and check the following settings.

1 The number in the PT (Port) column - by default this should be 1. Now open up the Midi Driver display and ensure that the Juno driver is the first in the list by highlighting and "Moving the selected driver to the top". The various drivers are accessed by the number position in the list.

2. Ensure that in the Midi Drivers display the box "Reroute Midi Playback----" is UNCHECKED. It is possible that you are not hearing JUNO at all.

Thanks again! You were correct. Unchecked re-route and now have my Juno patches.
Almost there! Plus, I sure am learning a lot in the process! Here is what is happening now;

Track 1 -play some notes. Go to classic track window. Set to program to 98, MSB to 87, LSB to 67. Playback sounds fine.
Copy same section of notes to track 2( or copy entire track, tried both). On track 2, change to program 23, MSB to 87, LSB to 68. Play each track solo to see how they sound. Both tracks now sound exactly like the last change I made.
If I do this to a third, etc. track, all tracks change to sound like the last change I made. Program and MSB numbers are correct, different in all of the tracks.
Thanks, as always!

Use a different MIDI channel .. the MIDI MIDI data is being passed to the synth in a MIDI stream, on the same channel, so it reacts to each one and ends on the last one. The same MIDI channel can not have different sounds on it at the same time on a single synth.

Edit - Rechannel
Change the channel to make each track unique.

Did edit, re channel for tracks 1,2 and 3. Channel 1 is fine, channels 2,3 no sound. Edit, rechannel originally said lower channel, 1 upper channel 16. Changed channel 2 to lower channel 2, upper channel 15. Now vU meter moves, but no sound.
Thanks- Bernier

Did edit/rechannel. Set lower channel to 2 and upper to 15. Now vU meter moves on that track but no sound form that channel.
Thanks bernier

Make sure it is still assigned to the correct port in the right-click options

Bernier - Note that it is more usual to use the EDIT > "Rechannel all tracks" command which rechannels each track in order from 1 to 16 according to the track number. To achieve accuracy it is necessary to, firstly, place the drums on track 10

I only have 3 midi tracks. The rest are audio. Will edit/rechannel all tracks affect those? Also, I do not have a drum track yet...
Thanks!

No luck. Maybe there is a simpler way.
What I have is this - a trombone section, a sax section, and a trumpet section. They are all playing the same notes. I thought the easiest way to get this effect would be to play one of the instruments in midi, copy it to 2 other tracks, and change the midi parameters so there would be 3 different instruments playing the same notes. Maybe someone can suggest an easier way....
Thanks, as always!! Bernier

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
