Hi, friends !

I have been away for a couple of days and
when I return the archive of songlinks has
grown exponentially (lol) !:)) ....and now I am about
to add to that.....(another lol) !!

This tune is a jazztune born out of the cold
winter weather over here. It just got me
in a winter state of mind !:))

http://app.box.com/s/2klg02b02i6u4ymi4yvr

I am indebted to Dean Clark who graciously
plays the intermediate guitarsolo (thanks Dean) !

Style: SJAZZBL STY Smooth Jazz Ballad (65 RS)
Instruments in style:
908 Electric Bass
910 Electric Piano
Drums: Realdrums Smooth Jazz Ballad Sn Ride
Soloist: 5 Electric Piano

And here are the lyrics:

WINTER STATE OF MIND (by Dani)

Bluer than blue, I sit alone here without you
looking out of my window, still
snow keeps piling up out on the sill
thinking of you, my love
and how you fare up on the clouds above
thinking thoughts of another kind
I´m in a winter state of ………
I´m in a winter state of mind
I´m in a winter state of mind

Outside it is cold, far below zero c I´m told
I will stay inside my room and hide
all in vain from all the pain
No cure in sight, but let us hope it goes allright
thinking thoughts of another kind
I´m in a winter state of ………
I´m in a winter state of mind
I´m in a winter state of mind

solo

Bluer than blue, I sit alone here without you
looking out of my window, still
snow keeps piling up out on the sill
thinking of you, my love
and how you fare up on the clouds above
thinking thoughts of another kind
I´m in a winter state of ………
I´m in a winter state of mind
I´m in a winter state of mind

Cheers
Dani

Dani, good song. I think this is one of your best. Great mix and I love the vocal. When you hit those low notes I feel it all the way down to my toes!

Hi Dani,

very interesting chord progression
and very well sung.
I can't help: for me the guitar solo
is totally out of tune. On purpose?

Hi Dani...

This is a great tune! So soft and mellow. It reminds me of something Mel Torme might have written and recorded. All the instruments are so mellow and laid back. And your voice is perfect for this ... exceptionally good! We're still smiling a while after we listened. Very, very nice! Thanks for a super nice listen.

Guenter you rascal !!!

You just had to notice my electric 12-string out of tune. Well, there's a perfectly sound explanation for that:

.....''''''''.....'.................................It IS out of tune!!

because the strings (2 x 0.08 to 2 X ?) are shot and the last time I tried to re-string it myself I wound up cutting my fingers to ribbons with the ends of the strings.

Maybe I can talk Dani into reposting after I freshen the thing up?

However, thanks for the instructive comment - the Forum can always use more of these, because in the end they lead to improvement.

We've been in winter state of mind ALL day what with the record cold weather here. Wiped out a day of planned outdoor fun.....so here we are drinking hot tea and listening to song posts and we see your new post. How cool is this? If were in a winter state of mind why not listen to "Winter State of Mind." Guys, that is a fine vocal and lyric and the mix sets the mood perfectly. Very nice!!

Awwwright Tommy. Lissen to this: You know, I think I'd rather eat a razor burger than re-string that #@!&* 12 string. At the same time, those two sets of Super Slinkys were so decrepit I had trouble even creating a crummy solo. So, yesterday, Sunday mind you, I ran down to Guitar Center and got the kid behind the counter to do it for a 20 + the cost of the strings (cheap!).

I had to atone as quickly as possible for crashing Dani's great tune without cutting my fingers to ribbons the way I did the last time I tried restringing it myself.

Hey, I’m one of those beer-sipping fans that hang around in the lounge

But I’m sober enough to know a good song, band and vocalist when I hear one and I am hearing one right now! You did a great job on this.

To really nit-pick I will say that the guitar lead didn’t fit this song’s style. I would have expected a mellower, smooth sounding lead guitar for this type of song. This is nothing about Dean’s excellent guitar skills it just didn’t fit IMHO. This is just my opinion and nothing else.

Hey Mario,

All I can say about the solo is that I really hope you didn't hear the original one, where I couldn't get the instrument in tune but plowed ahead anyway.

I appreciate the comment simply because it isn't the usual laudatory boilerplate. It has interesting content relating to guitar style.

Hey Dean,

No I didn’t hear the original version only the latest. But having a 12 string myself I know all about changing strings. If you don’t have a string winder like this http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ernie-Ball-PowerPeg-Battery-Powered-String-Winder-105297881-i1435852.gc
then I suggest you get one. It is a lot easier changing strings with it!

I’m glad you did not take offense with my suggestion.

I'm incredibly late in getting to this one. I'm very glad I caught up with it, though. Wow! This song and its arrangement really create a fantastic musical mood. Wonderfully sophisticated music.

Hi, friends !

I have moved over to Li´s place and have been
without my gear for quite a good time, so if anyone
of you have been wondering where he´d gone that is
the answer ! As I am working to get my gear to function
I started to listen to old tunes from way back then
and to my surprise there were some comments I had not
noticed and so I have to beg your pardon for that !
I hope that you will forgive me for not having
brought you my deepest thanks for your most kind
words earlier and can but wish you and all my other good friends the most Merriest of Christmases and the Happiest
of New Years !

Cheers

Hi, Greg !

Forgive me this overly late answer to
your most kind words ! No excuse
really but I had not moved back to these
earlier tunes before today, that is, not
on the site - maybe on the actual clouds
or saved mp3:s

As you well know, this tune was written
during the winter period after my wife´s
death, so I think that mood is well reflected
in this work !

Dean Clark, who played the solo is a fantastic
guitar player and I have been more than lucky
to have had him play solos on a couple of my
tunes ! Thank you Dean again !

Cheers
Dani

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
