I am learning to play bass and so I started looking at the bass tab in BIAB to play along with. However the tab seems to jump all over the place--the fret position will go from 3rd fret to 10th fret and back for no apparent reason, Some of the lines as written in the tab seem impossible to play.

Just below the guitar (or bass) fretboard view there is a little highlighting block centered over one of the fret numbers.

Clicking on another fret number moves that block to that position.

Once the right position is found for the playing at hand, the fingering and string choices should make more sense.

Another way to learn to play bass is to learn each note on the bass fret board and read directly from the bass cleft, right above your tabs in BB. You can start from using 1st position, first 5 frets on bass fret board including open position and when you are comfortable with all those notes, move up to 2nd position and so on. The tabs are there to show you how it was originally played but gives you no note learning ability. Consult MelBay Bass Teaching literature for a better explanation. However, having said all that, Mac is correct for the majority of PG music songs. If you do what he says and they are still wrong, the software allows you to move the numbers around to where they will be correct. I think a BKM (best know Method) has already been posted on this subject. Hope this helps.

Ah, the joys of predictive texting!!
First time I txted my wife on my new phone we nearly got divorced. I sent "Val, -----". The phone sent "Oval ----".
The reply was "who ya calling oval. Seen yourself lately!"
Bless
Cheers

I hear you. I remember the last time I had a spelling issue with Mac, was when I mispelled "Chord" with cord. Originally, I wasn't even talking to him. Boy that took 3 days to resolve, John chimed in, and tempers flaired and so on... ha. Oh well, if that's the wurst thang that ev'r hap'ens to me, then, I'm doing purtty good for a 71 year old 60's rock and roll hillbilly.

Wouldn't you rather find out how to do it in the correct fashion, or would you rather that someone else just stays silent and you continue to not know what you may be looking like to others, only on account of a spelling error?

I am guilty of the same thing, and would WANT someone to help me out about such, before I get somewhere and make the same faux pas where it could actually be the basis of getting the gig, or not.

I think that the person who knows better and fails to tell you is not really your friend.

That, and often there is another word that means another thing when the mispell is one like using "cleft" for "clef".

Mispell a programming command and the whole thing just crashes...

Mac,
As always, you are correct, and yes I would always want you to be my friend. I have learned so much from you over the years. Nuff said.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
