Have to come in with a little more of "The Dan"
When black Friday comes, gonna stand down by the door And catch the brave men when they dive from the 14th floor

Daddy don't live in that New York City no more He can't get tight every night, pass out on the bar room floor Daddy can't get no fine cigar, but we know you're smokin' where ever you are Daddy don't live in that New York City no more

How about A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME
I don't remember the exact lyrics but something like:
A chair is still a chair, even when no one's sitting there But a chair is not a house, and a house is not a home when you're not there
That's the sentiment and logical/emotional flow anyway. Love it!! Greg Yes, more genius from Hal David and superbly orchestrated by Burt, written in 1964 A chair is still a chair, Even when there's one sitting there But a chair is not a house, And a house is not a home When there's no one there To hold you tight And no one there You can kiss good-night I just dug out one of my Bacharach & David Original Song albums (ca. 1970) to check the lyrics. The album contains: - Wives and Lovers - Magic Moments - In Times Like These - Make It Easy On Yourself - Loving Is A Way Of Living - A House Is Not a Home - The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - Blue On Blue - The Story Of My Life - With Open Arms And the price is on the front cover? Try 60 cents.

Trev, you missed my favorite 2 songs from that writing team. Not in that book maybe, but I'll call them bonus tracks.
- Anyone Who Had A Heart - Walk On By
I smashed the hell out of my car today. When the cops came I told him "Officer, that guy was BOTH texting and drinking a beer." The cop said "Sir, he has every right to do that. I mean, it's HIS living room..."

Oh yes. Anyone Who Had A Heart. Classic interspersing of time signatures, I think in some places at every measure. And Walk On By, another piece of genius writing, I still play it from time to time. Thanks for the memory jolt

There are far too many great lyrics to list, but there's one that always makes me smile. It's an acute autobiographical observation from Boy George's "Karma Chameleon": "I'm a man; without conviction".
Lots by Pete Sinfield, particularly when with King Crimson.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. Kawai MP6, Korg M50, Ui24R, Saffire Pro 40. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11; Win8.1: Scarletts BIAB2022 UltraPAK, Reaper, a bunch of stuff.

From Bon Jovi
I'll be there for you These five words I swear to you When you breathe, I wanna be the air for you I'll be there for you I'd live and I'd die for you I'd steal the sun from the sky for you Words can't say what love can do I'll be there for you

Perhaps my all-time favorite.
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells
Just a couple of the many from Bobby D. I like.
Johnny's in the basement, mixin' up the medicine I'm on the pavement, thinkin' about the government The man in a trench coat, badge out, laid off Says he's got a bad cough, wants to get it paid off Look out kid, it's somethin' you did God knows when, but you're doin' it again You better duck down the alleyway, looking for a new friend The man in the coon-skin cap in a pig pen Wants 11 dollar bills – you only got 10
The lamppost stands with folded arms, its iron claws attached To curbs 'neath holes where babies wail, though it shadows metal badge All and all can only fall with a crashing but meaningless blow No sound ever comes from the Gates of Eden
One I wrote that I like Setting on the corner of a dead-end street drinking from a paper bag MD 2020 Maddog Wine will drive you right on out of your mind
Billy
New location, new environment, new music coming soon

Mine is...
Hello, Darlin'
First time I saw Conway Twitty, he came on stage and started with that song. I was a 15 year old kid - what an impression it made.
