Hi, friends ! I bring you a tune from my 1992 record. The song is named "What Is Love?" after I had pondered quite a while on the subject ! The original is in Swedish and I post both tracks here for comparison ! Style: CFPBTSw.STY (Slow Country Waltz 2 fingerpicking guitars (RS 85) Instruments used: Bass: 1122 Ac bass Country Waltz (CW) Piano: 1127 Pedal Steel Rhytm (CW) Drums: Realdrums Nash Classic Waltz Sw 1 HHSdST RDSn Guitar: 2054 Guitar AC fingerpicking (CW) Strings: 826 Guitar AC fingerpicking (CW) Soloist: 51 Synth Strings 1 Recorded and mixed with Mixcraft 6 Vocal recorded thru zoom H4n The version with me and the guitar: http://app.box.com/s/52yq2nfn0olbtn15k6ntThe Newer version (with BIAB backing) http://app.box.com/s/9ra2xwnw3daum9zenz87Twenty years between these versions ! Cheers Dani The Lyrics (free translation from the Swedish original): WHAT IS LOVE? (Free translation from the original version VAD ÄR KÄRLEK by Dani) Love is so red, red as a flower, a rose so sweet Love is so blue, blue as the sky and the bluebells too Love is the feeling you´ll have as you lay in the field and the sun shines so warm up above Love is so free, free as the shriek from a gull in flight Love is a song, rising so sweet t´wards the endless sky Love is the feeling of joy, that you´ll have on return to discover the lights are all on, back home Love is having a good friend who´ll be true till the end and when you´re in need, puts his arm around you, making you feel warm inside yes, so warm there inside Love can be blind, blind as a flake in a winter wind Love can be deaf, deaf as the bare trees without no leaves Love is the gift that was yours, to be able to choose, to be able to tell right from wrong solo Love is to aid, aiding someone who just needs a hand Love is so sweet, sweet as the sweetest of summer times Love is a hair turning gray, to be able to share everything with the one who´s so dear Yes that is love, that is love, yes that is love !!! © Dani Lindroos 1992

Hi Dani
I love listening to you singing in Swedish. I think it is because I can just listen to your voice and not even worry about the words. I just drown myself in that.

Hi Dani,
great song. I would prefer you singing in Swedish, too. That gives it a special touch. I love the original.

Hi, Jo !
You are just too kind !:)) I have to admit that my voice has come down considerably since 92 and the 92 version is also recorded in a pro studio. It is funny, but I remember it was a one direct take !:))
Cheers Dani

Dear Guenter !
I thank you for your most kind words. I do agree with you that it may be a better version, but as I had to involve BIAB, I felt I had to redo the tune and try to convey the lyrics if not exactly as the original but quite close and naturally not rhyming !:))
Cheers

Nice work Dani!! I think it translated well into English, other than the word "shriek" which may be too harsh. Beautiful and thoughtful song!! My grandfather was a full-blooded Swede. I would love to see Sweden someday. Take care and keep posting! Greg

This has a sweet smoothness to it, as your music usually does, and I love the vibrato in your voice:)

Hi, Greg !:))
Thank you for your most kind comments !:))I think I sung "cry" instead of the word "shriek" I came to the same conclusion as you that shriek was a bit too harsh !:)) Now Greg, if you should have your ways hereby, just pop in !:))
Cheers Dani

Very, very nice. Interesting comparison too. It was neat listening to the Swedish version -- w/o a vocal I was completely focused on the vocal and melody. Really beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Our albums and singles are on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Pandora and more. If interested search on Janice Merritt. Thanks! Our Videos are here on our website.

Dani,
Very enjoyable to hear both versions - in different languages - 20 years apart. Good job on both!

Hi, Floyd !:))
Thank you for your most kind comments !:)) Yes, I felt I had to involve BIAB as this forum is ment primarily for music where BIAB is involved !:)) But I also wanted to display the original version as it shows how much I have dropped since those days (chuckle) !!:))
Cheers Dani

Dani,
Thanks for putting both versions up for us to listen to. I will always like your original versions best, but the BIAB version is almost a different song and beautiful.

Dani,
Are my ears playing tricks on me or is that really you singing in Finnish (or is it Swedish)? Is it possible that singing in a different language changes the way a voice sounds?
Beautiful sounds, sentiments.

Hi, Dean !:))
Thank you for your kind words !:)) Yes, I think singing in different languages (this was Swedish) really makes it sound differently. It may depend on different pronounciation, vowels and generally different sound of the language (and probably on other matters also) ?
Cheers Dani
