If one develops compositions starting with RealTracks, what are the copyright considerations?

Can one copyright one's own compositions? Can one publish one's own compositions, or would there be a copyright infringement on the artist whose RealTrack you started with?

1. See #2.
2. Yes.
3. Yes / No.

In general, you may use original music you create in BIAB as your own. Just avoid known melodies and hooks.

For the best info on copyright, visit the .GOV site provided by the federal government (assuming USA here).

You are free to copyright and publish any original song you create with RealTracks.

You obtained the license to use BB/RB tracks and samples when you purchased the software.

You can do what you wish with the music you create with it.

The obvious copyright infringement rules still apply to all music, but you can use BB/RB in your compositions w/o issue.

Same rule applies to all other sampler type programs such as the stuff made by East/West, Native Instruments, and dozens of other sample libraries. You license it by purchasing the package, you can use it.

You can find my music at:

Add nothing that adds nothing to the music.
You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

So a musician asks me to add RealDrums to his/her song.
I generate and export a wav/mp3 of the RealDrums track using BIAB.
The musician pays me a fee for the drum track.

Is that allowed or is the copyright of the RealDrums track still owned by PG Music.

If you generated it in a PGMusic product, it is yours to use freely.
I agree with sslechta, this is allowed in my understanding of the license agreement and also multiple forum posts by PGMusic owner/staff.
I've counted on it multiple times previously and never had an issue.

Make your sound your own!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
